I saw the site today ... Looks like it might be a lift station.
The new hotel looks great, but it should have been bigger. Looks like a hotel that was/is/should have been on the Pembina strip.

These are stormwater outfalls. There is a positive stop gate in every outfall to prevent the river from flowing back into the sewer system during high water levels. All of the positive stop gates along the river are being replaced due to age. Tri-Core did the one next to my house last winter.

Giant snow maze planned for downtown Winnipeg
Businesses recruit volunteers for downtown snow maze
CBC News Posted: Jan 22, 2014 12:22 PM CT

Downtown businesses are looking for hundreds of volunteers to put their snow-fort building skills to use on Donald Street next month.

Winnipeg’s Downtown BIZ is hoping to build a giant snow maze next to Millennium Library on Feb. 1.

They’re offering up free hot chocolate and other goodies to anyone who wants to come out and help build the icy maze.

There will also be crafts and story reading indoors at the library.

The Winnipeg Arts Council helped organize the event and are hoping the maze will be part public art, part activity for visitors.

Selfishly, I hope that "Stuck in the Middle 2: The Unstuckening" has a pic of Kerr house, or more stuff around where I live in Broadway-Assiniboine.
Ive been very tempted to read this book but the fact its written by Kives turns me off.

On an slightly related front, perhaps someone can help me out with something (sorry if this is too off-topic).

Years ago I came across a book that was essentially a pictorial history of Winnipeg. I believe it was printed in the 80's maybe (could have been older) and it was published by the Free Press. Im a sucker for old pics of the city and they had some great ones. I lose the damn book. I emailed the free press about it but no one responded...

anyone know what Im speaking of?

Maybe another poster can help you with the book your looking for. Good luck.

I suspect it's this:

It was a pictorial history of Winnipeg created by the Free Press in honour of the city's centennial in 1974. It used to be pretty ubiquitous in libraries, at yard sales, etc. but I don't see as many of them around as I used to. I'm sure the Millennium Library must have a copy for perusal, though.

It definitely had some interesting photos that you wouldn't typically see in other histories about Winnipeg.

I have a book around here somewhere called "The Illustrated History of Winnipeg". I believe it had the old city hall on the cover. I think I got it in the 80's but not sure when it was actually published.

Curious about this little blurb reg: the removal of seats at the MTS center from P6 and P7 sections to make room for the expansion of the washrooms?

Quote:
Phase one includes addition of 4,000 sq ft at the northeast, southeast and southwest corners of the building through interior demolition and infilling balconies. Also included will be removal of seats from the P6 and P7 sections, and addition of washrooms.
Seats will be replaced with the expansion or permanently removed?

The washrooms are going in the corners of the arena in the concourse. I have seen the plans and cant see how the "removal of seats?" is even remotely related.

This is how I felt reading it? How can they possibly reduce the capacity from 1504 to even less. The quote was quite specific to mention it though? If you've seen the plans and thier unrelated what would be the reasoning behind it? If any?

I have been to Jets games all three seasons and a game this month was the first time I saw a new camera position being used in the P6 section. I wouldn't be surprised if the deletion of seats that has been mentioned is specific to this type of change and very minor.

Sounds pluasible Cory, but even with a slight drop in seating, we're going below 15,000 seats?

I'm sure financially it won't be an impact, but it wuld be strange to here, "Sold Out @ 14,950?

EDIT: as posted earlier in this thread:
http://jets.nhl.com/v2/ext/files/bro...hancements.pdf

Some of these seats may be lost.
