Googled Lansdowne Park "art screen". Literally not a single word on its function, purpose, or look.

Ditto for that long walkway between the East hand side south side stands and the East hand side north side stands. Does that connect with the park walkway? Is it elevated?

Wow if that's the case I'm even more mystified as to why this hasn't been talked about more...

A giant dynamic LED artistic lights display right in the centre of one of Ottawa's most prominent areas? That is wicked cool and totally against the grain of anything else in the city.

I would guess that many of the people who you might expect to be the most excited and enthralled with this are too busy being outraged at the rest of the project to acknowledge its existence. Once the stadium and retail/residential was included, a lot of people just tuned the rest of the site out.

Had the city decided to just convert the site to a green park (with no stadium, retail, or residential), then they would be trumpeting this element to no end.

Controversy about the commercial elements has certainly overshadowed the park design, but OSEG also does a lot more promotional work about its portion of the site too. The city could help itself out a little and do some PR work for the park.

Jill Anholt's installation portfolio looks really promising. This stuff deserves some attention.

The new Lansdowne will likely be a popular spot for newlyweds to have wedding shoots. It'll be a terrible thing, seeing all of the happy people there.

Absolutely right. I saw one guy (not Alecz_dad) refer to the park being added as being "postage stamp sized". And we've seen how many people just refer to the whole thing as Lansdowne Mall.

The other factor though is that the park portion is being completed last and I believe it won't be ready until 2015. So it may just be that specific plans for the beacon and the screen are just not realized enough to announce publically yet.

Jan 20 update on the work.



Stadium


At the north stands, the contractor is pouring the concrete foundations for the new field-level seating.
Work continues to install the new roof over the arena.
At the south stands, brackets that will support the horizontal beams of the wooden structure that wraps around the stands, called ‘the Veil’, are now being installed.
Tiling in the washrooms in the future locker rooms in the basement level has started.
Building the suites and finishing concessions on the upper levels continues.
Exterior cladding is being installed on the media box at the top level of the stands.

Urban park

Work continues in the urban park though the extreme cold and large snowfall has been a challenge.
Aberdeen Square on the north side of the Aberdeen Pavilion is progressing. The contractor has started to form and pour the first concrete curbs along the perimeter of the square. They are also installing underground wiring as well as special cells to encourage healthy tree root growth in the square.
A large portion of the pavers in the court on the east side of the Aberdeen Pavilion have been laid.
The berm is being shaped and foundations for the art screen that will run along the top are being excavated.

Urban village

Lansdowne Park urban village construction
The contractors are working inside several of the buildings, installing drywall and other interior finishes.
On the outside of the buildings, waterproofing and the steel studs for the exterior cladding are being installed.

Lol...They ARE getting a couple of taller ones which, of course, triggers complaints that they are entirely out of place in the neighborhood because there are no other buildings that size anywhere nearby. Except the senior residence directly across the street, mind you.
