Yes, they should definitely share that information. Heaven forbid that someone should be defrauded out of their retirement savings or something.

There are some construction photos that show the interior and exterior work being done at Seaholm posted on Stream Realty's website. The document was created in 11/2013, so the pictures are obviously a bit dated, but that pipe-thing on page 11 of the PDF is interesting.

I will be happy as long as Seaholm isn't completely shutoff from the public and has some restaurant or other options. It's such a cool piece of history and being forever hidden behind business doors would be a shame.

We know its not going to be an open market or public place, at least the structure itself, but hopefully the grounds around it will be public friendly and inviting. It never was a public building to begin with so hoping it would someday become one is just a pipe dream. If the city can make it a money maker, you really can't blame them. I will certainly be in the minority here to say it wouldn't be a terrible loss if it was demolished and replaced with a highrise if we are never going to be able to access and use the building anyway. I once had high hopes for Seaholm....I suppose I'd rather cut off my nose to spite my face at this point.

Some new renderings of Seaholm

This last one shows a little more detail on the building.

You know I really would have loved Seaholm as a beautiful aquarium and I know the idea was tossed around in the past. It would have been a perfect location for a major aquarium, but instead of having one of the best aquariums in the nation, we end up with a wannabe shopping center aquarium that's located way up on the northwest side along 183 which IMO is just a horrible location. I'd like to see a real aquarium like or even better than the state aquarium in Corpus. A centrally located one near Downtown and Seaholm could have been a totally unique and awesome building for such a facility. At least I have my multiple aquariums at home including a 120 gallon Amazon aquarium with Discus.

Hold up, looks like it's not a done deal yet.

http://m.bizjournals.com/austin/blog...alth-deal.html

So what will happen if the deal does not go through? Will it stay empty until another company is interested or will the city government wake up and actually support a public use which is what it should be.?

Having just returned from San Diego and Los Angeles where I visited many spectacular museums, I think Seaholm would be best served as a museum, with exhibits that are constantly changing so as to always create fresh reasons for people to go there. We need an aquarium, but I'm not sure Seaholm is the right space for one. It seems like common sense to me that a museum would be right next to a library. I hope the city of Austin will consider this idea.

No more aquariums please. I watched blackfish the other night. Hard to support that industry. A progressive museum sounds great. And I think a market would be better on the east side of 35 for the record.

The high-rise in the Seaholm rendering is so banal. The grounds look nice though.

Aquariums don't keep killer whales.
When I say aquarium I mean by native fish to our region as well as educational. The Texas State aquarium is nice but it's not close by. I also am not a supporter of aquariums like the new Austin Aquarium which is a private business. I really question the ethics of opening something like that in a shopping center. Being a aquarium hobbyist, I take up most care and create natural living habitats that the fish live in such as my Amazon 120 gallon.

Having said that and reading the posts, I also think that a museum would make the best fit for Seaholm. Weather it be art or even natural history. I love the Natural History Museum in Houston and Seaholm would make an awesome natural history museum. They wouldn't have to alter the interior at all with the huge space Down the middle.

I would vote museum myself just because the possibilities are greater. Of course an aquarium could make up for Austin's lack or a real zoo.

Don't believe the press. The deal is done. According to the brokers the lease has been negotiated and is ready to sign. They would have signed it already but they want the city incentives, and so they have to play that hard-to-get game where they're 'considering options' to try and get the city to give them as much cash/incentives as possible. If they city knew for sure that the deal was basically done, they wouldn't be motivated to give as much. Every company who seeks incentives plays this game. In part to maximize the incentives, but also in part because it takes so-o-o-o long for the city to make a decision that the deal is complete by the time the city is ready to talk terms. Oracle did it. Apple did it. HID Global did it. eBay tried it but they screwed up the timing.

I dunno if this would go here but since the site is included in the Seaholm district plans from the city I figured it could fit-- it looks like there's activity at the old Austin Energy building, finally.
