All of Castlegars street lights have been changed to these same LEDs. The first city in Canada to do so.
The lights on Burrard at the theatres have also been changed over it looks great.

I think the very first intersection/junction in Vancouver to get this new LED treatment was at Thurlow and Comox behind St Paul's hospital? Pretty amazing since that area was pitch black before. But I wonder how a city so sensitive to 'light pollution' would be able to handle this, especially for residents living close to the ground floors.

One of the first things I noticed about Toronto when I moved there is how much better their street lighting is than Vancouver's. Instead of the orange low-pressure sodium lights, they use white high-pressure sodium lights. They aren't as good as LED, but so much better than orange.

They should replace the crosswalk auditory feedback with the theme song to Frogger. That would be cool.

They have the ability to dim the light intensity of the led street lights. I believe they have or will be doing this soon with comox street. They installed them on the maximum brightness. The higher level brightness will be used on busier streets

Are those LED's at Hastings and Main? It's so bright at night, it looks like a movie set.

Yes they are dim able if they're like ours. And in time when the lights naturally dim as they age they can actually be brightened over 100% to compensate.

I walked along Comox yesterday and boy are those lights bright! The conditions were worst possible with wet and dark asphalt, but there was so much light it was, well, disturbing. Especially the mentioned Comox/Thurlow intersection is bright as a day with 4 LED lights. It is surely more safe than earlier, but that's a bit too bright.

They installed them at Oak and 12th near VGH last week. Looks great!

I wonder if ICBC is paying part?

Also, Mississauga (6th largest city in Canada) has an aggressive program to replace all street lights with LEDs. They are monitoring them centrally. When one breaks or needs adjusting they can send a crew. Currently, most cities send crews to drive around looking for burned out lights.
Quote:
LED Streetlighting Conversion Project
About the Project:

The City of Mississauga is undertaking a citywide Light Emitting Diode (LED) street lighting conversion project from November 2012 until December 2014. All street lights in Mississauga will be converted from the yellow-orange light of traditional High Pressure Sodium (HPS) to the more natural white LED lights.

The new LED street lights will significantly reduce maintenance costs and should result in a 55 per cent reduction in future energy consumption for the City. LED street lights will also increase safety, visibility and reduce light pollution in the sky.

Noticed that the sign on the Canaccord Tower was changed from Canaccord Financial to Canaccord Genuity.
Not sure when [the sign was changed], but apparently they changed their name on Oct 1, 2013.

Another new sign -
really bad pic by me (maybe Klazu can take a better one from the south).

"SHAW TOWER Cathedral Place"

Personally, I'd rather see a more garish sign that is centred on the building and maybe curves around one of those penthouse skylight atriums
(like the Dunn's sign, but high up)- or is affixed to the sloped roof on a scaffold like the Fairmont Royal York Hotel sign in Toronto.

Thanks for posting the Shaw Tower photo. I tried to take a photo at night, but it was too blurry. Time to buy a new camera...

I wish the sign were on the east side, though, where it would get better exposure.
