American Airlines from 01APR14 is resuming service to Edmonton after 18 years of service cancellations, where it plans to offer daily Dallas – Edmonton service, on board Airbus A319 aircraft.

AA1428 DFW1620 – 1925YEG 319 D
AA1493 YEG0810 – 1305DFW 319 D

AA1493 operates from 02APR14.

AA last operated service to Edmonton in September 1996.

Saying that, isn't there some kind of statute of limitations on using the word "resume" after 18 years lol.

I'd take frequency increases or larger metal first... we have very good connections now.

Isn't San Diego incredibly slot constrained? As for Atlanta, I know it is a hub, but if we can reach most places through another hub like MSP instead, why would the airline dilute itself?

I think we have enough transborders now. New York was the most needed one.

Now we need more flights that actually cross oceans. Crossing the Pacific to Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong or Delhi. Crossing the Atlantic to continental Europe.

There's speculation on C2E of an Emirates flight to Alberta that could include both YEG and YYC.

Alligient is expected to launch service to Western canada in 2014 with flights to Orlando, Ft.Lauderdale, and Miami. Not sure that they will be daily flights but there will be a bit more offering.

Plus there is at least one more truly international announcement for YEG coming up that I am aware of.

This is what was said re: Dubai by Faraz at C2E. This friend-of-an-insider source is not as reliable as tuffyy, but hey it's fun to speculate!

Just spoke with a close friend who is in the Edmonton travel industry and he mentioned Emirates managers spoke to him last week about a potential Emirates flight starting in 2014 from Alberta. They contacted him to lay some ground work in preparation for hiring personnel, etc. The friend said the inquiries didn't seem preliminary but rather they wanted to move ahead with some of the key hirings for the Alberta region.

I asked if this could be a shared flight between YEG or YYC and he said there's a chance but it would need a 777 since Edmonton is not 380 compatible (at least I don't think it is).

He also mentioned this was part of the deal brokered earlier this year between the two governments.

Like I said, it comes around a few times every year and most of us know that EK really just wants daily rights into YYZ, they'll dangle everything else out in front to try and get us to bite.

I believe at one point our government countered and offered a flight into the AB area (like they kept saying they wanted to do) but they didn't go for it.

If anything, I feel like YYC-YEG-DXB would be a A330-200 type route as I doubt they'd have a 77L to spare... but it's 6,000 nm to DXB from YEG. That's iffy.

DL is struggling to make a once weekly YYC-ATL work, so I'd think YEG-ATL is a long shot. Awaiting word on how well WS YYC-MIA is doing, maybe a once weekly seasonal type deal could work there. UA to EWR maybe?

Because based on AC's own words, we know there's lots of routes they want to open up with the 787 and YEG-FRA is probably near the bottom of that list.
