^ I don't remember what it looked like before, but the fact that that's the result of a multi-million dollar renovation speaks volumes about the current state of the domestic terminals.

New paint, new terrazzo floors, new lighting, etc. are only cosmetic upgrades. It doesn't change the fact that the terminals are far too small given the amount of passenger traffic in and out of there every year. We're not in the 1960's anymore!

im not sure what youre expecting from a baggage claim but this is what 90% of brand new baggage claims look like.

^ Yes, it looks pretty standard for a domestic terminal of an American airport. We had to spend millions of dollars just to get it to that point.

I'm only messing with you. You may or may not be right. I don't know.

I just never really paid much attention to any baggage claim area I was in. The only thing I ever have in my mind in one of those is getting my bag and getting out as quickly as possible.

Who goes to baggage claim anyways? Seems like everyone tries to cram their carry-on bags in e over-head bins to avoid the checked-bag fees.

This is Beijing Capital's baggage claim area. Apples to oranges, but this is proof that not all baggage claim areas are created equal:

That's cool I guess. I don't know I just don't really have the baggage claim area too high up on my list of things that need to be renovated and such.

LAX would probably have to knock down the whole baggage wing and rebuild to create that kind of space. Multi-million renovation wont get you that. Plus we are talking about one of 9 terminals. I've never been to Beijing's airport but its more consolidated there it seems thus they need more baggage space per terminal.

when you build a new airport, you can have 50 foot ceilings. LAX was restricted with what is there already. Other than the height of the ceilings, it looks pretty much the same

I'm not making comparisons, wishing the baggage claim area looked like that, or even suggesting that it could look like that.

What I'm saying is that if we have to spend hundreds of millions of dollars just to renovate the terminal to bring it up to a decent (American) standard, then that says a lot about the current state of the facilities at LAX.

What do I really want? Well, I'd like a brand new terminal instead. LAX needs to adopt some sort of 10-15 year plan to modernize the entire airport. Fresh paint and new terrazzo floors are simply patchwork improvements at this point. Talk about doing the bare minimum.

ideally yes, we would get a huge new central terminal that combines 1 - 4 and another one that combines 5 - 7 but i just dont see any way that would fly with the immediate neighbors and the cost would be in the tens of billions.

Careful. I've had Citywatch breathing down my neck for months now for even suggesting that LAX was the least bit inferior. She'll never let it go.

You're right though, anyone who's been to Beijing, Hong Kong, Amsterdam, Bangkok, etc. has seen what an airport can be. Like the rest of our infrastructure, American airports are pretty weak when compared to some of our foreign neighbors. I applaud the new TBIT and the other improvements throughout the airport but it's hard to get that excited about. It's still extra heavy lipstick on a pig. LAX needs an eventual terminal-by-terminal overhaul.

You mean terminal 0? They are considering to built a new terminal 0 right next to WN terminal 1.

This would be crazy, but they could theoretically rebuild the entire existing central terminal area and maintain operations if they constructed additional satellite concourses to the west of TBIT that link to a central terminal facility constructed on a couple parking structures in the central terminal area are located via underground people mover. Transition primary operations to that facility and then rebuild the piers with TBIT working normally all the while. No doubt it would cost tens of billions.

Saudia will launch non-stop flights to both Jeddah and Riyadh on March 31, 2014. In addition, Ethiad will begin service to Abu Dhabi on June 1st.

Flights to Qatar, Kuwait, and Jordan are needed to complete the Middle Eastern connection.

Right, EY will operated 777-200LR. They already acquired the 777-200LR. This will be ex-Air India plane. They want to selling 5 or 7 777LR from Air India in a few month ago.
