Yes, all of the "heavies" I saw were freighters. The only "heavy" passenger flight I saw was a Condor B763ER from Frankfurt.

So it looks like this could be the year that we break the 10M mark. A 6.1% increase in Nov and Dec over 2012 would do it.

Do weather cancellations affect the passenger traffic numbers, or do they typically even out because they eventually fly or are re-routed? In some cases, I'm sure they do, because peoples trips could get cancelled completely.

It appears Southwest/AirTran is at it again.
I've been informed that the seasonal route to Portland is going to be
permanent AND the seasonal flight to Cabo is back. I guess this means
United will also start flying to Cabo.
I guess some of our more connected posters will be able to verify.

Cabo and Portland both come back on June 8, 2014, but Portland is not going to be permanent. Both destinations will be seasonal.

We still have one more month to go, but in light of November's numbers, I don't think we'll hit the 10,000,000 mark. We'd have to have 838,999 passengers in December. Last December we had 786,382 passengers, so we'd need 52,617 more passengers this December compared to last. That would be a 7% increase and because many flights were cancelled out of ABIA in December due to bad weather in other parts of the country, I don't think that's likely.

ABIA breaks air passenger records
A record number of passengers, more than 10 million, used Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in 2013.

According to a news release from the airport, 10,017,958 passengers passed through the airport last year, a six percent increase over 2012, a year that saw ABIA handle a then-record-breaking 9.4 million travelers.

I figured it would, the airport is growing so rapidly that it would be foolish not to add new gates now. We can easily grow into them rather than play catch up when the last of the least used gates is filled.

Isn't that a long time to assume that we won't reach 15 million until then? I could see 2020 to 2022 but unless we see a slowdown in growth I would think it could be sooner.

Has anyone heard any reason for the big bump (9%) in passenger traffic in December? It seems odd. No big events or new airline service starting. In fact, I thought a lot of flights were canceled.

Could the weather-related diversions from airports like DFW have added to passenger count?
