Air Canada Orders 61 Boeing 737 MAXs

I really don't care for AC's choice but it is big news. I don't think AC has ever owned or flew the 737 except aircraft assimilated from Canadian Airlines. And the E190's are going too, a sad day indeed.

Like I said in the YYC thread, spotting is going to be pretty damn boring in a few years time. The majority will be 737 NG's, MAX's, and Q400's. Probably mix in some CSeries too.

Well except right now with the influx of A330's (TS) and the A310 and 762 from FedEx and DHL.

But YEG and YYC are both set to be 737MAX heaven!

I also see a ACJ319 from Comlux Aviation just made the trek from NRT to YEG today (Fuel stop) I think.

Spotters: the WestJet Disney plane is enroute to YEG from YYZ, eta 09:20 MST. It will turn and operate flight 2204 to Puerto Vallarta.

We've been lucky down here, today is the first day since they painted it that it hasn't been at YYC. Not sure how your weather's looking tomorrow, but she might be do the same rotation (YYZ-YEG-PVR-YEG) I'm tracking it in the YYC thread here and usually have the sked up 12 hrs in advance.

WS claims it is 300 lbs lighter than the previous livery (Care-antee)

Would this be that shared Asian route with YYC or will you guys be getting DFW? I would think that it will be DFW.

Long time follower first time poster here.

Excited to finally hear some "news" finally, maybe it'll be DFW since the AA/US merger just closed, or something involving those two.

Also, did anyone by chance see how EIA was promoting the Heineken Bar on Twitter a few days ago? Any chance that it would've upset the Belgian Beer Cafe, Chiles or Houston Steak and Ribs? But seriously, they even had the Dutch Consular General on hand who said that YEG was an "international 'upmarket' airport with great reputation!". Any chance that we would ever get KLM to come? Would YEG risk it having just got FI and after that AC LHR debacle?

Regarding new flights from Edmonton:

I noticed today that Sunwing Vacations is now selling packages next summer from Edmonton to Varadero and Montego Bay. These are in addition to the Cancun and Puerto Vallarta flights they operated last summer. Flight details are still unclear, but it seems likely they are shared flights. Nevertheless they are new.

On another topic, I have not heard any speculation hereabouts regarding Allegiant Airlines coming to Edmonton. This past August there was a news item reporting a big cheese from Allegiant spouting a plan to operate to Florida from Canada. No specific places were mentioned, other than ruling out Toronto. Atlantic Canada and "underserved" centres out west were mentioned. Allegiant's practice is to avoid centres well served by incumbent players. Edmonton currently has a single seasonal weekly flight to Orlando by Westjet. They could easily keep Allegiant out by increasing Florida service from here. Either way, I anticipate better Florida service from Edmonton.

Of course, some of you may have better information.

I was just at YEG yesterday and was truly impressed with how nice the airport is now! There's lots of retail and eateries! And comfy places to chill out! I took a wander down to the north end. Is it being used at all now? Looked deserted! Even that little shop by the kiddies play area has been shut down.

Allegiant airlines could start flying from Red Deer and that would be fine with me. Montana still too far. They have great deals to go down south.
