I'd really like the "tallest building under construction in your city" thread to be more used. A 100m tower in Regina interests me a lot more than a 200m tower in Toronto.

Same here. I just looked at that thread today.

I wish Regina had a 100 meter UC or even proposed, but it looks like its new tallest in the official "spire height scale" will be starting construction soon! The roof will come up to 82 meters, and the spire will bring it to 92. Site prep is already complete.

Just because its in Toronto? That's flawed logic.. WS would never understand that.

Anyways by that reasoning, there is a lot of 1-10 floor stuff going up in Toronto that is far more interesting than any tower going up in Regina, regardless of height.

No, it's nothing against Toronto. It's just that Toronto already has such a great skyline that a lot of the towers going up wouldn't add all that much. What I mean is that a 200m tower in Toronto is a lot less significant than a 100m tower in Regina, which would be a new tallest. I don't really care about individual towers themselves as I do about what they contribute to a city's skyline and urbanity, so while Toronto may be getting higher quality projects, by virtue of numbers they don't add as much to Toronto as something a bit lesser would to Regina.

If anything, it was a compliment. I wish a 200m tower would be insignificant here in Vancouver! And I really hope I don't have to write up another explanation to someone in Regina now

It is what it is. The topic showcases the tallest 50 proposals. For many, height is the attraction. Why convolute such a clear subject matter in an attempt to be more inclusive especially when other threads exist or have existed to showcase any development.

I wish the great Canadian midrise thread had taken off.

Very insightful (no pun intended) document. I stand corrected. Thank you.

I saw the first advertisements for Telus Sky inside Art Central this morning. Art Central is the building slated for demolition to make way for the development. Several of the offices and studios in the building have already been vacated.

That'll be at least another 2 months before it gets to construction.

1 Yorkville's current proposed height is officially 188m, as posted on Urban Toronto. The sign has been put up outside the current building. It's 182m plus a 6m mechanical penthouse for a total height of 188m (617ft). The renders don't look that bad at all. It certainly has potential.

This area is really building up with One Bloor (845ft), Casa II (600ft), Casa III (660ft), X2 (550ft), and several others going up nearby. There are also many other tall proposals that range from 800 to 1000ft. IF this all goes ahead, we will have another entire peak in the skyline around Yonge and Bloor.

The big city downtown is moving north. There will be a big canyon of huge towers, which however, will never be able to move north of Church. (Rosedale) So we will have to be content with a downtown that moves sideways to the west. The Entertainment District is step one, and there is certainly lots of space for more, starting with Mirvish Gehry.

lets see what happens.

I wish Toronto spread it's talls out a little better myself, so that they could be seen better in skyline shots.

Caltrane, you've been slacking lately. So few photo updates.
I don't think the "Yorkville skyline" will, when all is said and done, extend any farther than Belmont/Davenport and west to Avenue Rd. For the foreseeable future, those are the realistic northern and western borders for that cluster, at the very most, but maybe I'm talking out of my ass.
What's the latest on Holt Renfrew? I'd particularly like to see that one get approved and underway.

That's Toronto's problem, from a skyline fan's perspective. There isn't really one vantage point where everything can be captured, certainly not North York and Scarborough in a shot with downtown, let alone Mississauga, which isn't part of TO. Plus, there are the beginnings of a pretty decent skyline at 401/Leslie/Don Mills.
One unsung vantage for seeing downtown and Yorkville is Allen Rd. south of Sheppard. Sure, it's a tad distant from downtown (15-20 km), but it's on a higher grade with a descending sightline, and Downsview airport to the south permits an unobstructed view downtown. I drove through there a couple of days ago, and Aura and Four Seasons, along with the old CBD, were standing tall.

There are plenty of vantage points from which the extent of the downtown skyline is visible:

Wow, that last one, taken presumably from Tower Hill East, is a new one to me, and one of the best skyline vantages I have seen. But even that one only encloses the downtown skylines. Even Eglinton can't be seen from there.

I love their artist rendition of the buildings. That really cracked me up!
