I was so excited for Ten York, but it seems to be looking less spectacular each time I see it. I still like it, but am not as thrilled for it since the changes. I will wait and see what the finished project will turn out like.

With number 49 and 50 not having official heights, would Ottawa's 2 tallest proposals qualify?

How would this pass the planning commission? Correct me if I am ill informed, but isn't the height restricted in Ottawa. I heard nothing can surpass the Parliament building in height.

There are several buildings already much taller than that just a short walk away.

The height restrictions are only in the Downtown Core based on Parliament sightlines. Here is a document explaining the height restrictions and images of the view planes;

-Page 55 shows the areas affected by the height restrictions;
-Page 62, 72 and 82 show the viewpoints;

Based on those numbers Ottawa should be able to sell 8-10 condo towers with a height ranging from 15 to 20 floors per year. That is of course if all new housing sales were focused into towers of 15-20 floors.

Of course all new housing in Ottawa is spread across several different categories of housing, not just tower condos.

The tallest building in Ottawa Gatineau is across the River in Hull, Terrace de la Chaudière (124m/406ft-30 floors). In downtown Ottawa, there are about 7 towers taller than the Peace Tower (ranging between 112m/367ft and 93m/305ft). It's not as much about the height, but more about the view planes.

As for whether we can sell a 40+ story condo tower, the problem is that Ottawa's market is in a slump with tighter lending rules, federal layoffs and an overload of condo projects. I predict that 5-10 years from now, Ottawa's economy should pick up.

That's true Ramako, probably the first time ever, at least the first time in this boom. I was thinking... since the 10 tallest UC list is coming to an end at 10 000 posts within the next couple weeks, would it be possible to expand it to 15 tallest for the new iteration? Just so that we could have more than just two cities on the list? Just a thought. If you don't want to field that responsibility, I'd take it over.

I would be in favour of a single top 30 thread and request a maximum of 1 update per week per building unless it's a special event (crane installation/removal, first panel of glass, etc.). Most of 11 through 30 are just as interesting as the top 10.

It would be almost impossible to enforce that unfortunately. But a top 30 would be cool, then at least more than one city and one building from another city would be represented regularly.

Or we could do threads for buildings over 200 meters UC and buildings over 150 meters UC? Then keep the regular "Construction Sites" thread for everything else.
