Agreed. Everyone knows Brookfield Place is getting built, but until the foundation work is underway, it's not guaranteed 100%.

In Calgary, you can get a permit for shoring that will allow you to start pile driving and shoring, ( down to 30' I think), before getting an approved BP.

Is that actual excavation of the foundation, or are they still removing debris from the demolition of the old Herald building?

They are now doing excavation. I watched for a while as they had a backhoe filling a b-train dump truck on the NE corner of the lot. This will be a deep hole once dug out.

Does construction like this ever get delayed in winter due to snow on the ground?

No, not really. They just clear the snow and keep going.

^^ Unless of course, after the tower starts to rise and there is an ice storm or high-velocity winds. Then they'll shut her down until it becomes safe.

From today. Starting to move quick. The hole is about 15 feet deep in most of the Northeast quadrant of the site.

In the far corner you can see how deep the backhoe is sitting.

. . .

So I guess since driving is done and excavation is well-underway on this one, we can move it to construction? Every other mod has said different, but I've noticed several other projects in the UC section that aren't actually UC according to the rules I've been told. I'm not sure what to think here

Yeah, not too sure what the differences are. Some places drill and our some concrete in the holes, maybe those sites are considered u/c?

If caissons are being drilled poured, then yes since caisson work is part of the foundation of the structure.

However if drilling and concrete pours are for shoring, then nope since shoring is for excavation.

Today on the way by the Brookfield Place I noticed the hole stretches the full length of the East side and they are putting in the first row of tendon tiebacks on the North part of the dig. Sorry I was in a big hurry and did not take a photo...sorry

No need to apoligise. It is just hole which will become deeper over time.
