This looks so badass only bad thing is that it's in the middle of a desert.

When you see this tower go up - you will see the rest of the surroundings develop - Metro systems infrastructure, loads of amenities and best of all it will create a hub for commerce and economic development for the region. This is the way forward and this building like other super tall buildings that are not in its league are built to make a world statement and show prosperity and encourage trade in the region. I think we will start to see the Chinese working on a 3000ft plus tower soon China Vs the Middle East for the Skyscrapers - lets hope the Europeans and the Americans can catch up

I don't think the Euros and us Americans need to build that high. Not one of those mega talls are even full, look at the Burj Khalifa.

Personally, I hope they don't catch up. The U.S. and especially European cities already have good urban form. Supertall towers in the middle of nowhere aren't going to be an enhancement.

I'd like to see the same amount of building activity that we are seeing in Asia and parts of the middle east, but not the same type of development.

That really isn't how development works. It is not an "if you build it, they will come" situation when it comes to tall towers. Demand should be first, then highrise construction. New York is an example of a city that does it in this manner. New transportation options lead to increased development. I would like to see more supertall construction in the United States, especially spread out in more mid size metro areas (not just NY and Chicago) but there is already a ton of office space here and building on speculation is not a great idea imho.

They should build it in Chicago instead, since it is The Illinois after all.

Funny how this is in the "under construction" thread, and has been for a while. But I would love to see photos that actually show this. It just seems so nebulous.

Is this really "under construction" beyond a few site markings and photo-ops?

If they're only in the pile driving phase, this should be moved back to the proposals section, just like any other building really.

Pile driving phase = construction (as far as this forum is concerned)

Perfect, then could you please move Brookfield Place Calgary into the construction section? Because pile driving is done and excavation is underway. No other moderator seems to consider it construction in the global section. In fact, if this is the case, many of the buildings in the proposals section require being moved. I've been told be several other moderators that buildings aren't moved here until foundations are complete.
