I drove over the Calatrava bridge tonight to check out the new lighting concept of the BofA and it is looking good. Very bright and crisp lighting now. Also noticed the Cityplace tower is all lit up again!

I wish some of the other buildings that have gone dark would turn their lights back on.

Imagine the diamond on top of the Trammel Crow Center to have a beacon like the Luxor. That would be sick.

It used to have one (though not quite as noticeable), and it was pretty cool.

The best of the beacons is still the one atop the Transco Tower in Houston (is that still its name?) Distinctive and unique.

I do like the Williams Tower light, but it just seems out of place since Houston's skyline is so dark at night.

I've always thought Fountain Place should have some sort of lighting concept. It's such a cool looking building and I hate that it sits dark at night.

It is...for now. But Houston is up and coming and they have a lot of new highrises breaking ground right now---all of which will be lit with LED's including the 46-story Main building, 50-story Chevron tower, 49-story International Tower will have LED's down the entire length of the building, like the Jolly Green Giant, and the old Exxon building that will be reskinned and have a lit crown. The amount of skyscrapers going up there at one time is phenomenal. I wish we had that here in Dallas...

I follow both, and Houston is definitely blowing Dallas out of the water. But as long as growth and development stay in Texas I'm happy.

Dallas led the nation in job growth, apartment construction, net office space absorbtion. Less, tall skyscrapers downtown, yes, but there are a ton of highrises going up in Uptown Dallas and in Plano and Richardson. There are many more smaller, urban type developments creating urban neighborhoods going on in Dallas. Don't sell that development in Dallas short just because we aren't that active in this forum and because its shorter. I would not trade the rapidly growing density for some tall downtown skyscrapers.

I was talking about downtown and central Dallas in General, but Dallas does have more suburban office growth.

Florida-based Parmenter Realty Partners said Monday that it has completed its purchase of the 42-story Tower at Cityplace on North Central Expressway.
The Miami-based investor has had the 1.35 million-square-foot skyscraper near Dallas’ Uptown district under contract for more than a month.
The new owner said that it will build a “state-of-the-art urban mixed-use development surrounding the tower containing over 600,000 square feet of restaurants, shops and residential dwellings” on vacant land surrounding the tower.

This quality of development, the zoning, the planning in downtown and the inner-city areas of Dallas are just amazing. The life going on in the neighborhoods are great. The parks, the mixed-use, great restaurants, museums, venues. The amount of development is crazy. Its not tall, but its the second most active construction market after New York.
