^This doesn't mean anything. I noticed YYC has flights to FRA, LHR and NRT not to mention other UA/AC flights. I would rename our airport to Nail Yakupov International to get those flights, flight times and aircraft. OK maybe i'm exaggerating, Dallas Eakins International would be doable for me.

Airport Improvement Fee to rise by $5

November 13, 2013 (Edmonton, AB) — The Airport Improvement Fee (AIF) at Edmonton International Airport (EIA) will increase by $5, bringing the fee to $30 per departing passenger. The new amount will apply to travel on or after July 1, 2014 for tickets sold on or after February 1, 2014.

Airport Improvement Fees are collected by the major airports in Canada to help offset the costs of infrastructure and capital projects such as runway improvements or construction of new facilities. With the new fees in place, Edmonton’s AIF will now match those across Alberta.

This is the beginning of the end of YYC. I expect that we will hear shortly from AC, UA, BA, and KL all pulling their routes and shifting them up to YEG.

Oh and The Edmontonian will break ground tomorrow too.

(I'm talking actual United flights, not AC codeshares, which Calgary has more of for sure.)
