Re: Edmonton

Any thought being given to expanding Foote Field or Clarke Park? It would be interesting to see either of those two smaller facilities brought up to the next level.

Also, is this going to be used as a pro venue?

^those are likely to remain as smaller 1000-2000 person stadiums, a good thing.

This would likely be in the 10,000 person range, expandable to 15000 and used for pro events yes.

I'm surprised that the Edmonton soccer stadium project won't result in the expansion of one of the existing facilities... both are pretty nice and ideally situated for public access (being along LRT lines and generally pretty central).

It's interesting to see the plethora of high-level soccer stadiums going up across the country. In the 90s everybody was building baseball stadiums, this decade it's all about the futbol.

For what its worth, there was a call by FC Edmonton to build a 15,000 seat soccer stadium at the city airport a while back.

I think they are still mulling over if it will be modified for the Argos too. I'm sure a spectator roof will be done regardless though.

Translates to a league average of 27,004K. If Hamilton was in the new stadium and drew 22K the league average would increase to 28k. Something to look forward to next year, although I s'pose Ottawa at 24K would bring that down.

The Hamilton numbers are interesting for the visitors variance. My guess is that Ti-Cata fans came to Toronto to watch them play versus trekking out to Guelph.

The most telling numbers are for Montreal and Toronto. Toronto saw ZERO impact from winning/hosting a Grey Cup, nothing. They could repeat and nobody in this city cares.

Montreal is telling because for years they ha solid attendance but ownership messed with a good thing in "expanding" Molson. Supposedly they haven't sold out since they did that small Reno job. I've never seen attendance be so finite like that. Almost like the demand ratio was 100% at its peak and they ruined it.

Riders numbers will drop significantly next year as well. I think the stadium will drop down to around 33,000 capacity for next season.

The problem wth Montreal is that due to a lack of supply, they jacked up prices, now they expanded, but still have high prices. If they reduced prices, they'd probably do better. There's also the problem that supply was so low for so long, that people eventually got used to not being able to go to a game, and so people don't really consider doing it anymore. That's a very real risk for having supply so low; you lose the casual fan.

And if they started doing proper marketing again. They were so used to sell outs at the smaller stadium that they became complacent and expected to fill the stadium with no effort whatsoever. They neglected their market for years and now they're paying the price.

I think Winnipeg will see a substantial drop next year. 3 reasons are at play.
1.The so-called honeymoon period for a new facility will lesson consierably in the second season
2.The " gong show" season we had has turned a lot of people off.
3.Ticket price increases ranging up to 26%. [NOT A MISPRINT]
