No one is stopping you! We'd love to hear more. Hearing about other cities is a nice break from Toronto, not that I don't love what is going on there. Sometimes it's just too much.

Thought I'd repost this here to try to get the thread back on track!
An amazing shot from the Calgary tower. A couple years old, from the Calgary Tower website.

Calgary ppl, you really need to lighten up. At the end of the day, people live where they want to live. Who cares what someone on a forum says about your city?? If you like Calgary, then thats great. Thats all that matters.

Nobody is out to get Calgary. Ppl make comments about all skyline pics from every city. Chill out

Good point. However, it does seem to sometimes be a stronger malicious intent when directed at Calgary, probably because of the fact that it's stealing a bit of scene and it's so "upstart" and going through such a dramatic categorical change in its culture, urbanity, and how it's percieved. Many of us do need to develop a wayyy thicker skin though, as we should be used to it by now, especially in the Canada section. Others just don't care and can love the city without feeling the need to defend it(a la SurrealPlaces). I should try that. I'll call it "doing the SignalHillHiker" ohh... wait, that sounds bad

This thread is an excellent example as to why almost all of the Vancouver forumers stay far away from the Canada forum.

Then for some reason, you stated how Montreal has more people than all of Alberta, even though that wasn't related at all to the conversation about population growth. Regardless, it happened like 6 months ago. If you're so certain, than be my guest. If not, stop acting like such a ridiculous child and be civil.

.
I also recall Calgary eventually passing Montreal being mentioned on a few occasions here.

You would sometimes hear about Vancouver passing Montreal as well in the days when Van was growing really fast, but things have since slowed down there.

There is also a weird obsession on the part of some with province A + province B or whatever mix outnumbering Quebec.

Or sometimes also provinces A + B + C plus territories Y and Z outnumbering all of the provinces east of the Ottawa River.

Stuff like that...

Well all of that could happen, but not this century, if ever.

Edit: Actually I think Western Canada is already more populous than the provinces east of the Ottawa river. 11 million, 10.5 million.

I thought they were just too busy buying Lulu Lemon, getting a grande frappe and climbing Grouse with their trail-mix.

Calgary's skyline is undergoing extremely impressive changes, I don't even live there and I am very excited to watch it all unfold. I fully understand the excitement from many Calgary members, because I can relate. I don't believe there is an anti-Calgary tone in here at all. We welcome any news on construction/towers, regardless of where it's coming from. I enjoy seeing all the new office towers in Calgary, as well as the new residential buildings going up in the Beltline. It's awesome to watch your city transform.

I have been in awe watching Toronto over the past 10 years. Take a picture of TO from the island right now and compare it to only 12 years ago... it looks almost like a new city. Take a picture 6-7 years from now and again it will look even more intense. While Toronto has not built a new tallest, they have totally changed their top 10. For instance look at a list of the 10 tallest buildings in 2000. Now do up a list of the top 10 tallest in the city, and you will see the huge difference. Calgary and Toronto are both totally re-designing their skylines at an incredible pace. I am happy for both cities. I talk about TO more because like Chad and other members feel that personal attachment and bond with Calgary, I feel that with Toronto. It's where my heart is. Toronto is my city, so I have that connection. It does in no way mean I hate other cities at all. I encourage people in Vancouver to post here more. Your skyline is gorgeous, I want to see more of it.

Hear, hear. Thats about how it is.

And to everyone else, no more bringing up the past or making "under the breath" comments about any of our cities. Lets move forward beyond whatever the hell that was.
