Yet another high rise hotel has been proposed for Calgary's 10th Avenue. This one will be 77 meters and 21 floors.
It is going to be amazing to see this transformation over the next five years. Just for reference, 10th Avenue is the street you see in aerial pics of Calgary that has all of those parking lots, right along the train tracks. Currently there are several projects underway there, offices and residential. Soon to come are multiple hotel towers, 2 large office towers, and a few more residential towers. Many of the parking lots will be taken out, right now it looks like at least 4 blocks of them. Such good news!
By the way, I'm in love with the Corus Quay Innovation Centre, is the beach going to be a replica of Sugar Beach?

It's tall because it's tall and it extra tall because of that needle. Seriously, having a spire or other pyramidal-ness to a building is often quite nice looking. Spires look silly if you do them like New York and have them on short little infill buildings, but on a true landmark they look nice. I don't care about height so much as aesthetics.
