Ah yes, the Arlington. I have this fear that years after the arena, RAM, new towers, etc are built, that burned-out pit will still be there like a boil on the arse of the city.

It is all a game to of chance. Trust me if someone offers enough money anything will be for sale. I think when the arena district is complete someone will buy it . May be save the exterior walls and build a very tall condo tower would be nice.

the planning department (it's actually the sustainable development department although there are number of branches within it, not the planning department) - while far from perfect - is a far from being "a gong show" and this article in many respects is just plain wrong. this has been pointed out previously in this thread and elsewhere including correspondence with the article's author which elicited, in part, this response:

"... I read over your comments with great interest and value your opinion a lot. I'll hold on to this for any further writing about this and other development planning stories. ..."

hopefully you - and others - will do a bit more research before jumping to conclusions simply because they are easy to jump to.

With all due respect Ken, It's been clear that the P & D office has had major difficulties in the past few years. There are problems relating to how developments are approved, officers not following the branches' own guidelines, the flawed consultation processess.. I could go on and on. There are serious issues at that office.. and I did not spend much time reading the article and don't necessarily agree with it, but serious issues do indeed exist there

please note that i said that things are "far from perfect" in that department. and i am well of aware of some of the serious issues in that department - and in many of the other departments that affect how that department functions - that need to be addressed. and i would concur that one of the first is the flawed consultation processes, particularly in the inclusion of uninformed and unaffected groups and individuals who then expect to treated as equal stakeholders and become offended when they don't get their way. there are serious issues but simply calling the planning department a gong show is not a very productive way of identifying and addressing those issues.

Major commercial real estate brokerage opens in Edmonton

With Edmonton’s commercial real estate market showing steady growth, the city’s brokerage sector is also expanding, with Newmark Knight Frank Devencore opening a local office.

“We are delighted to further strengthen our presence in one of the most active commercial real estate markets in North America,” said Jean Laurin, president and CEO of Newmark Knight Frank Devencore (NKFD).

The company is the Canadian partner of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, which operates from more than 320 offices around the world.

It is the third Newmark Knight Frank Devencore office to open in Alberta since 2011, following two branches in Calgary.

On Monday, the firm issued its first quarterly Edmonton office market report and noted the first tenancy in the planned Kelly-Ramsey Building, with KPMG leasing 40,000 square feet in the third quarter. Other notable transactions reported by NKFD in the quarter are Firma Foreign exchange leasing 18,000 square feet in the former TD call centre in Edmonton City Centre; Dialog architects relocating from 108th street to the Revillon Building and the Capital Region Board expanding to 6,000 square feet in the Bell Tower.
