Hillwood property eyed property for possible movie studio? Fort Worth

The first step in making Fort Worth a motion picture capital could transform Hillwood property in north Fort Worth into a major film studio. Though no deal has been reached, some hometown residents and a former Hollywood movie executive are discussing that possibility with the land developer as they hope to boost the city’s economic allure and make Fort Worth a hub for feature film production.

“I want this to be a new digital Hollywood, a film mecca in Fort Worth,” said Tabitha Russell, a former Fort Worth video producer and actress currently overseeing her own video production company in Long Beach, Calif.

Sharing Russell’s cinematic dream are Peter and Rudy Pulido Jr., her Fort Worth cousins using their respective insurance and real estate backgrounds to study the plan’s economic potential while currying local support.

Though better known for their family’s namesake Mexican restaurants, the Pulido brothers hope their latest vision makes their hometown even tastier for film crews looking for location shooting sites.

“What we’re looking to do is bring some major films out here,” said Peter Pulido, aware not only of the sales taxes that could be generated by film crews patronizing area restaurants and shops, but also property taxes that a major industry could bring from home sales.

To that end, the Pulidos and Russell are seeking land for a major film studio. They have discussed the idea with Hillwood, though no deal has been reached.

“They have specific land that is of interest to us,” said Russell, declining to provide further details until a potential deal is reached. “From a developer’s standpoint, it [the Hillwood property] can hold soundstages and expand into a potential studio complex. I want to bring it to Fort Worth – my hometown – and to Tarrant County because Tarrant County doesn’t have that,” said Russell, referring to mammoth the mammoth structures used in major film productions.

W. 7th bridge opens in Fort Worth

The new West Seventh Street bridge opened to regular traffic this evening after a brief “parade” of dignitaries just after 5 p.m.

The project, to be called CityLine, will be located on 186 acres near the intersection of the George Bush tollway and Central Expressway.
“CityLine will be an instant city with a true urban environment,” said KDC’s Walt Mountford. “It’s adjacent to DART’s existing light rail station and is also surrounded by key highways and two major thoroughfares.”
The $600 million, 2.3 million-square-foot initial phase of CityLine is slated for completion in early 2015.
In addition to the 1.5 million square feet of office towers to be leased by State Farm, the initial phase will include development on KDC’s property west of Plano Road and adjacent to a DART light rail station.
The project will include more than 92,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and entertainment space; a contemporary 150-room select service hotel and 520 new multi-family residential units.
Phase one also will include an 18,000-square-foot wellness and fitness facility; a 41,000-square-foot medical office building; and a 3.5-acre park with trails.

Phase I of this project along with the other apartment complex and State Farm complex will put this one block well over 3 million Sq Ft and near 2 thousand residential units. That's not even mentioning the block next to it. Huge news for Richardson, DART and probably homebuilders in nearby places like Garland, Wylie and Plano.

Me too. Fort Worth updates are rare on here. It's great to see this stuff though since I haven't been over to Fort Worth in several years.

curious as to what your expectation was. There was a lot of discussion about what was thought to be there, and even an older rendering as it fought through zoning that would work on the back end for State-Thomas. I think I expected more like the last proposed rendering, which was more of a donut shape and more heavy towards McKinney, with a more modern facade. Very curious to see the townhomes on the back end though.

Its scale is about what I expected but it's aesthetic reminds me of a lot of buildings going up in Boston, which I happen to think is great.

This is my thought too. The lot across McKinney from it would be perfect. The Cityplace Target would be a great candidate too. That land has to be worth a ton right now.

It's hard to tell because maybe we just haven't seen all the different angles shown in the video, but yeah, I think you may be right.

According to the video it appears that a notch was taken out along the curve edge of the tower to the top.
