When I used to go there I'd imagine it going as a full bowl all the way around at the same height as the rest of the arena, which actually would have made it pretty big - probably at least 16,000 seats or maybe more.

The entire press box/owner's box/GM's box is now on the south side. It's that big metallic structure at the top middle.

Makes perfect sense to me as all the team offices and such are in the basement of the south side stands with an elevator running straight up to the viewing deck.

Construction crews are calling the press box thing level 3.5

So is Regina going with the cracked eggshell design for the stadium or no? I thought they were still trying to decide on which design to go with.

I just didn't want the cameras placed on the new south side and facing the north side, instead of the "glamourous" south side being the side that is seen on TV.

The photo in the article is just lazy reporting. That's not the final design. The final design will be chosen from the 3 finalists early next year. The general shape will be similar (covered spectators, bowl, etc), but it'll definitely look different.

Just looking at the south side upper deck in the first photo above and it looks like the concrete risers are about two/thirds? done. They were not started until October 1 at the earliest and the photo was taken around the 22nd/23rd?

Not that we should try to compare that to Hamilton (as it's not the same) but it might help gauge how quickly it can be done.

Didn't the construction team in Ottawa create a concrete plant on site? (if memory serves correct). This could be way Ottawa's concrete pouring is moving quickly.

they are in the process of hiring an architect who will then design the building.

the previous sketches were not the design.

We are in the process of selecting a contractor/financier/architect group that already will have a stadium designed and fully costed-out. When the decision is made, I'm sure there could be some tweaking before the contract is finalized, but the full plans will already be there in their submission to begin with.

For play by play, cameras on the south are better because the sun will be behind them. Most of the time we only see the first few rows anyway, depending on the angle and where the play goes.

But I bet we'll see plenty of the south stands from other angles, book-ending commercial breaks for example. Or shots from outside the stadium on the path between the stadium and the Rideau.

In Hamilton, most of the cameras will likely be on the west stands. I really hope they don't just point them at the steel mills during breaks as they always did in the old stadium, but that's probably a fool's dream. If they're creative, they'll turn one toward downtown once in a while and capture the escarpment, downtown, and the sunset.

You are right but I suspect their might be an error in the image. The cameras are always on the same side as the press box, and the press box has already been installed on the south side.

Looks like a bigger version of BMO Field.

October 25, 2013

- Inside the south stands, drywall is being put up in the offices, locker rooms and other spaces and the walls are being painted in the lower levels
- The first pieces of the Veil, the iconic wooden surround at the south stands, began this week
- Most of the precast concrete risers that the seats will be attached to, have now been installed
- At the north stands, seat installation continues
- The new roof materials are being laid down over the north stands
- At the upper concourse in the north stands, new sections of concrete floor are being poured

The stadium has a new look when viewed from the Rideau Canal


New seats continue to be installed at the north side stands. This is expected to continue during November


The south stands are coming together as more of the bleachers are installed, and the new stair case is built


From the air, it’s obvious how much work is occurring on a daily basis at Lansdowne
