I think it's a nice touch that would really give Lansdowne a high-end feel and silence people that consider it nothing but a glorified big box development.
People will think it's a big box development regardless. Case in point:

Even though there's a grid pattern, high density, bike racks, pedestrian sidewalks, plazas and condo towers, a Whole Foods instead of a Wal Mart, an LCBO instead of a Canadian Tire, a farmers market, cafes, and a big-ass park, it all screams "homogenous suburban-style development" and "carpet-bagging power centre dressed up in pretty clothes" to people like alecz_dad/John Martin.

There's no reasoning with these kinds of people.

Design Panel Likes Lansdowne Park Townhouses

Jon Willing - October 17th, 2013

The urban design review panel meets monthly to go over architecture plans for new development. Last month it was Minto’s turn to show the panel its design for the Lansdowne Park townhouses.

Here are the panel’s recommendations.

Interesting that the panel touches on the height of the cinema and how it will affect Holmwood Ave.

But, generally, a big thumbs up for the townhouse designs.

By the way, Minto is calling this the Towns on Holmwood and it appears the company is taking orders soon, if it hasn’t already started.

(I should note, what Minto showed the design review panel might be different than this picture, which was dated April 2012. It’s the only version I had on file.)

http://ottawa.ca/en/city-hall/planning-and-development/week-lansdowne

•Work this week at the south side stands focused on installing the precast concrete risers that the seats will be mounted on at the second and third level.
•Inside the south stands, the offices, locker rooms and other spaces at the lower levels are being finished.
•Construction of the Veil, the iconic wooden surround, is expected to begin as early as next week.
•At the north stands, seat installation continues as the red and grey seats continue to go in.
•Inside the arena, repairs to the roof have started.

•The first pavers of the new Great Porch were laid this week, south of the Aberdeen. The large new plaza will feature planters, seating, bike racks and water fountains and will be a meeting place on the edge of the Great Lawn.
•Elsewhere in the park, underground infrastructure is being installed, and work on the seating wall and base for additional open areas around the Aberdeen Pavilion continues.

•Work to build the new condominium at the corner of Bank and Holmwood has started; the contractor is now pouring the concrete structure for the second level of the residential tower.
•Some of the new retail buildings are being enclosed and mechanical and electrical systems installed inside.

Oh, there's our stone street being put it...I guess that answers that.

Or is that another part of the development? Hard to tell.

I think it might be the "Great Porch".

You're probably right based on what section it's filed under.

Minto has floorplans for the Holmwood townhouses on their website, but no prices yet.

There aren't many townhouses left in the design, mostly what they are calling "terrace homes" of +/- 1000 sq ft. I guess they realized the market can't support too many million dollar townhouses with windows only on one side when you could buy a freehold house on the other side of Holmwood for half the price.

Not only that. The windows are on the north side of the homes so they will get very little light. A bit like living in a cave.

Looks like the North Side is the new "South Side" in the refurbished stadium. Less premium seats on that side means that the younger, rowdier fans will be sitting on that side. Either that, or we will see the upper deck on the South become the new party zone. Anyone think they will bring back the Mardi Gras beads?

Yeah I really don't see the appeal of these units compared to the ones already for sale elsewhere in the development.

That was the first thing they did. It is presently sitting at it's new location:

Civic Centre?

How come I can't find a lick of information anywhere on what the inside of the Civic Centre arena is going to look like? I'm just dying to see how they plan on applying lipstick to that pig. If the facelift is anything like what they came up with for the south side of the stadium, I expect a less than visionary result. Has anyone seen renderings?

* I am a supporter of the development
** I am not a hater/NIMBY/Glebite/FOL.
*** I am just disappointed with the "refurbished" aspects of the project.
