Of course it matters to undo this idea that Edmonton is more progressive than Calgary. I had to sit through some douche in Vancouver telling me that queers born in Calgary always move to Edmonton before ending up in that gay valhalla known as Vancouver and when was I going to make that move? We get slagged all the time for being rednecks and it MATTERS that Calgary's celebration has become huge and big-city in most respects. Is it bigger than Edmonton's? Not so much the point as the fact that it's not smaller (and never was to my knowledge) and relatedly Calgary isn't a podunk hellhole that queers need to escape from anymore.

Partner and I were in Van in mid-august enjoying drinks and snacks on the terrace at the Hotel Georgia which is FUCKING CLASS AMAZING and women at our table tells us that we "seem like Vancouver guys" and meant it as a compliment. I told her that we represent the new face of Calgary and we LOVE our city. So no I'm not just going to sit on my hands when somebody posts patent nonsense about us. If people really want to discuss Edmonton pride go do it on that thread.

Oh my god, relax. My photo only showed my chest. I don't even understand how that evolved into a joke about having a d*ck pic as an avatar. You guys are grown men on here acting like children, I'm the youngest poster in this thread and yet I can at least maintain a respectful level of rapport.

No one posted any patent nonsense about Calgary. I merely repeated the information from everyone that I've ever talked about it with, and from my experience of having marched in both Calgary and Edmonton's prides this year that Edmonton's seemed bigger. I was proven wrong and agreed with the person who presented the evidence, all before you even began your nonsensical temper tantrum that you are still continuing. I conceded that I was wrong, get over it. No one was slandering anyone or anywhere, you just need to grow up and act your age.

Thought I'd mention some gay friendly places but dont brand them that way. YMCA Eau Claire i have been approached for dates from both girls and guys. And sometimes steam room have been chatted up before. Also, Blue Star Diner I usually see a few gay couples or friends meeting up everytime I go.

As for some place that have pride flags up or gay events include Caffe Rosso, Winners, Cowboys, Priape, Deva Dave's.

Workplaces that are friendly for LGBT persona include Westjet, HomeDepot and Shell.

Im personally not a fan of Twisted Element or Backlot as Im not a boose hound.

Calgary International Film Festival is also doing a number of LGBT movies so there is that too.

Good to know, I hope to move downtown sometime in the next year or two. Hopefully more lounge-type gay or gay-friendly places open up by then. The Back Lot is either too crowded or too empty, and Sapien is too closed Not a fan at all of Twisted or that Bathouse Bar. Ming is pretty good as well, always seemed very gay friendly to me.

That'd be awesome! I love gays who support local business and downtown vibrancy and events.

Some gay related news that affects YYC: Priape has folded and closed all 4 Stores Canada-wide. This includes Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary.

Good riddance to over priced clothing that you buy online for half the price. Lets bring a new store in that isnt so shady and gross.

I liked that Priape had a streetfront storefront herewhen it was still semi-hidden in TO and they did have some good deals on undies but from what I heard what killed them was the outlawing of poppers. Story was in Xtra.

That said, it lasted 9 years in redneck Calgary. Not bad. They had a store in Berlin that folded quickly- wonder if that was part of what did them in too.

What the hell is going on? I had an interaction with one asshole a year ago on urbanspoon because his reviews all had to include some swipe at how stupid white people are (he also hates Chinese- he's Pakistani FWIW) and it got ugly but ended. Then today out of the blue he messages me "Go to hell, you dirty faggot."

Asshole went by AmeOtoko (he is a MASSIVE Japanophile) on US but he goes by Imran Deroy on many other boards and the theme of all his posts is the same- which made it easy for me to find his real identity after he mentioned he'd gone to Athabasca. He has written some letters to the editor that are clearly - I am saying 100% clearly- the same guy. So today I replied with "What's bothering you, (REAL NAME)? Maybe we should get the police involved?" because what he did was criminal harassment (when two persons are anonymous to one another it's not harassment- when one is known and the other anonymous, that's harassment, when the anon one pursues the non and he knew my ID since I use my real name on US). I haven't heard back from him. PM me if you want the fuckhole's real name, happy to share.

^ Hey Rusty, unless that POS is on here, might I suggest you erase your post so he doesn't google his way here?

I have no reason to. I am just wondering what's going on with all the anti gay slurs these days.

Priape's prices were high, but prices in Canada will always be higher due to import duties and tarriffs, and shipping costs are high here too, Canada-wide. But at least it was a Canadian business.

There's a store in Vancouver called Top Drawers, I wish they'd open more of those in Canada's big cities.

Obviously there's stuff I'm just not exposed to.

I see a lot of this sort of slur becoming common in recent years, but mostly the current generation of youth who've picked it up online (especially via gaming). It's rude, it's offensive, it's thoughtless - but it's not quite at the level of "hate" in the sense that it worries me that we're backsliding to an earlier era.

What you guys are describing is a whole other kettle of fish. Pretty nasty, from the looks of it. I'm certainly sheltered from both sides of the insult, because I don't even see people making them - as I would have, say 20-30 years ago. Maybe I need some more redneck friends, check up on them and see just how bad things are reverting.

I was just in there buying some swimwear a month ago and nobody said anything about closing down! You'd think they'd say something! Are they going to remain open to liquidate all the product or is it now completely shuttered? Is the online store still going to remain operational?
