I don't think AC cares what the overall international passenger figures look like for YEG. Their concern is whether or not their own flights are profitable. It's not like YYC has been posting staggering international growth over the past few years either, nor has YVR, and YYZ is down this year too.

And the international figures for YEG are mainly sun destinations. The true volume of international passengers would be masked by the fact that many passengers would be flying via EWR, ORD, YYZ, YVR, SFO, IAH etc etc. I realise that is the case with all airports in general but in YEG's case with just the AC LHR route and the once weekly TS flight to LGW, really hard to gauge. I am sure once Icelandair starts YEG will see a real spike in "international" numbers.

RE: Edmonton losing Heathrow and its 767 this winter

YVR is losing its Incheon flight and its 767 due to Rouge as well... so we are not alone in our loss.

The whole story (rumour) which you left out is that Asiana is rumoured to be adding its own metal on the ICN-YVR route. There is some speculation that this is either (a) replacing the AC flight or (b) adding its own service in addition to the AC flight. Therefore, to say "YVR is losing its Incheon flight" is unsubstantiated. Slightly different than YEG-LHR being cut for three months.

Can you hear me gritting my teeth???? 🞵🞵🞵🞵 AC. I will not be extorted and neither with EIA or the new Mayor. AC can NOT afford to lose Edmonton but we CAN afford to lose AC. From where I am sitting I am prepared to say AC go 🞵🞵🞵🞵 yourselves. AC will pay a long term price with a network gap. We will make a MOUNTAIN of this AC threat. Edmonton will not suffer. This Region will galvanize and have BA in here tomorrow. We will not be held hostage by AC which has provided 🞵🞵🞵🞵 service to Edmonton. PR nightmare for AC?? Yup. For Edmonton...NOPE. They will need to backtrack at the speed of light to recover from the stupid threat and letter. Great work being done by our team at ERAA!!. Time for the public sector to cancel any flights on AC anywhere. Lets create a gaping hole in their network.

So as I stated about Air Canada "stomping it's feet"?

I think it's very clear What AC's intentions of YEG now are... And if you want to say otherwise, good luck!

This looks terrible...

What a joke of an airline, I hope EIA tells them to go 🞵🞵🞵🞵 themselves. I will be boycotting them and telling anyone else who will listen to do the same. For a large company to stop service because of competition and threaten EIA is unacceptable.

That's our national airline folks!

Hope the story gets picked up by every media outlet and embarrasses AC completely .

Yeah, it's all about the dollars, eh?

Funny how the companies that throw the biggest tantrums are the ones that operate as though they're still a monopoly. It's like they don't even know how to operate in a competitive market.

To be fair... I also understand AC's point of view. The airport did throw Heathrow under the bus and basically said "don't connect there if you can avoid it". Why would AC want to continue to service and airport that is promoting people to not use its existing service to Europe?

Your quote is NOT fact. Your using "quotes" inferring the statement was actually made - when its your interpretation. Are you illiterate? You're quoting yourself.

Again, the assumption being that we should be ever so grateful and thankful for the one singular international flight they provided our city.

Sometimes it's ok to bite the hand that feeds you if you're being malnourished.

Yes - I'm illiterate. Thanks. That's right, people can't disagree here without it being implied they are dumb.

“In nine hours, you can be in Paris from Edmonton,” Milley told reporters at the time. “The other thing is that going through Heathrow can be a bit of a challenge for people if they’re connecting on to go somewhere else, whereas Reykjavik will be a really friendly airport for them to be able to go through.”
Okay, so they didn't directly say don't connect there word for word - but that's what it sounds like to me. What do you gather from it?
