City over a million? Per StatsCan's last census results for Canada that would only be Calgary in Alberta, no?

Tried the YEG-SEA this past weekend on Alaska Air for the first time.... man thats a nice flight... 1hr40 and you're in SEA.

First experience with Alaska Air was a good one too, free beer/wine on the flight, and I checked to see if I could change my return flight a day later, no problem, no service fee, I was stunned.

All around a good experience, I'll be headed back to SEA, lots to do/see out that way and I look forward to using that direct again.

Haha... yeah that was a nice touch a month ago coming back from PHX via SEA. And I love that it was a nice microbrew Pale Ale and not the Canadian/Coors swill on AC and WS.

We have been going to SEA for quick weekend getaways - take the LRT from the airport into dt Seattle. Love Seattle. Much better shopping, food, bars, sites than Vancouver in our opinion.

Looks like Icelandair is starting March 5, not 26th as reported.

So AA today announced HKG and PVG from DFW. Anything new regarding AA's imminent announcement to YEG?

I know YEG is in a different league than HKG or PVG, so will be a smaller scale announcement for AA and the DFW metroplex, but any updates?

I stand to be corrected but I will be surprised to see AA come to YEG, it just doesn't make sense to me given their current uncertainty. I can see DFW happening but with WS rather than AA providing the service.

Because of the merger you think they are not going to continue growing their business? AA is looking at improving their network. Like I mentioned a month ago, my bet is on AA. WS needs to solidify their YYC route before introducing a YEG flight.

AA is interested in competing with UAL and DL. And if they see an opportunity to make money, they will jump in and serve YEG.

They know that UAL is treating both YEG and YYC like a goldmine. I am sure they will serve YEG.

I would not expect AA to allow anything to take presidence over the new Asian services. However this does mean AA is starting to release their new S14 schedule. Could be an announcement any day but likely after Oct 22nd. Also look for the announcement to come from ERAA, not AA. If it were to come from AA, expect it to be lumped in with the domestic services announcement.

^ Concur...

I am not expecting any of the mayors of either Dallas or Forth-Worth to be on stage for such an announcement.

but to be honest with you, there's way more business between Alberta and Texas than Dallas and Hong Kong...But that is a different topic!

Icelandair Increases Edmonton Service
Icelandair Increases Edmonton Service

17.10.2013 13:32
* Edmonton service to operate year-round
* New earlier launch date of March 5, 2014
* Up to four flights per week

Quincy, MA, October 17, 2013, –Icelandair is pleased to announce increased service from Edmonton with year-round service and an earlier launch date of March 5, 2014. Edmonton will be Icelandair’s 13th North American gateway and the second year-round gateway in Canada.

The increase is part of Icelandair’s 2014 schedule, the largest in the airline’s history. Service from Edmonton will operate year-round on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The 6-hour, 20-minute eastbound flight will depart from EIA at 6:30 pm and arrive in Reykjavik at 6:50 am the following morning. The westbound flight will leave Reykjavik at 4:45 pm and arrive at EIA at 5:30 pm the same day, with flying time of 6 hours, 45 minutes.
Quote:
“2014 will be a big year for Icelandair. Earlier this year we announced our service from Edmonton, giving Alberta passengers faster and easier access to Europe. Due to the demand for international carriers from Edmonton and the positive response Icelandair has received, we think it makes sense to operate year-round. We are also moving our launch date to three weeks earlier than originally planned. We see this as the beginning of a strong relationship with Alberta and anticipate Edmonton strengthening our bond with the Canadian market,” said Thorsteinn Egilsson, General Manager of The Americas.
