Maybe then youngsters will stop shitting all over FiDi for being a "boring" neighborhood. It's my favorite, and my first visit to NYC was in the summer of 2002 (which was arguably within the worst era in that neighborhood's history).

Does anyone know how tall the trees will ultimately grow to? Looking fwd to visiting NYC for the first time in 2-3 years; they've already seemed to have grown quite a bit since first being planted.

From Wikipedia: "Quercus bicolor, the swamp white oak, is a medium-sized tree of America's north central and northeastern mixed forests. It has a very large range, and can survive in a variety of habitats. It grows rapidly and can reach 300 to 350 years. It is not a large tree, typically growing to 20-25m (65–80 ft) tall, with the tallest known reaching 29 m (95 ft)."

Basically one day when you're amongst the trees you won't be able to see anything of the city surrounding you, only the trees, and the only place you'll be able to see the sky is where the Twin Towers themselves once stood.

Vesey St. Pedestrian Bridge Permanent Closure

On Monday, October 7th, the Vesey Street Pedestrian Bridge permanently closed to the public for the start of its removal. The Port Authority, in conjunction with the New York State Department of Transportation, already is removing the eastern approach to the bridge. The steel framing, stairs, landings, elevator, and escalator will be deconstructed first, followed by removal of the actual bridge span over West Street and western approach. The Port Authority did not provide a timeline for the work, however the agency will assign Traffic Enforcement Agents daily to help assist with the newly restored street-level pedestrian across West Street.

This fall, the new "west concourse" of the World Trade Center Transportation Hub is planned to open under West Street -- linking from the WTC to the World Financial Center in Battery Park City. The additional concourse will help accommodate pedestrian flow with the Vesey Bridge no longer available.

I'm sure this has been discussed here ad nauseam, but I don't understand why they aren't returning the sphere to the WTC plaza. They claim there is no where for it to go, but I found a spot. Put it just to the north of the Museum entrance, on the corner of Greenwich and Fulton Street. It would be a central point in the WTC, it would welcome people to the Memorial Plaza coming from the transportation hub, and most symbolically, it will only be a few feet from where it was originally installed.

It should be installed where I have placed the red dot.

The size of the trees will be capped by the size of the soil boxes underneath. They will not grow to their full size.

The glass-enclosed pavilion that will serve as a new West Street entrance to Brookfield Place (aka the World Financial Center) is expected to open later this month, according to a Brookfield Office Properties spokesman.

The 8,000-square-foot pavilion, directly across from the National Sept. 11 Memorial plaza, will have revolving doors on its northern and southern sides along West Street. The northern entrance, which will open with the pavilion, will connect to a pedestrian walkway leading to Vesey Street. The southern entrance, providing pedestrian access from Albany Street, will not open until sometime next year.

Inside, the pavilion has six escalators leading to an underground walkway that will link the office complex with the World Trade Center PATH station—and, eventually, with the new Calatrava-designed PATH station and the Fulton Transit Center, both under construction. It'll be the first time that commuters and visitors will be able to walk underground between the World Financial Center and the PATH station.

The 55-foot-high pavilion will have two towering steel columns resembling giant basketball nets, and Italian stone paving. Facing the grand entrance will be retail shops, due to open in the fall of 2014, that will line the back and sides of the Winter Garden staircase.

Not even that, but you'll be able to walk underground from the Hudson (World Financial Center) to Williams Street! That's a pretty far walk underground.

According to Brookfield's website it's actually set to open in Spring not Fall. Did they change it and not update their official website or is the Trib wrong?

I too, am curious about the new Location for the Sphere- does anyone know where it is now? Does it come back to the Memorial. Since this is the Memorial Forum- I do not hestitate to ask that particular question - even if it bother´s some.
