One of the smaller things I really like about that CCH design is that it looks like 200 South would get street parking, slower lanes, etc., much like Broadway is right now. That'd be a huge improvement over the street's current design.

As for the buildings/overall site, I think it looks pretty cool, especially compared to what is there right now.

That LDS ward hasn't had meetings in several years. It's just vacant.

I don't think that building would suit the needs of the Hope Lodge at all, and the lodge is going to be much, much larger than the church.

The following buildings look to be....

CCH around 23 stories
Office building around 25 stories
housing building around 10 stories
another housing ( i think ) building around 15 stories

Just wondering what those plus 111 south main would look like in the skyline.

I'm guessing from the I-80 view those new buildings would go between the future 111 South Main tower and the US Bank building. From that view these building will finally fill in that annoying gap in the middle of the city's skyline. Come to think of it, the 20ish office building could block out most of 111 south main.

A developer has officially submitted plans for an apartment building at 306 E. 500 S., which is the southeast corner lot of the intersection of 300 East and 500 South. The name of the project is Seasons at Library Square.

Would that be the same developer who built Seasons at City Creek on North Temple?

Yes these buildings on block 67 would block nearly all of '111' building as they would be in front of it on this I-80 view. These CCH block buildings would be around that ugly redish/pinkish building below the '111 building'. I alzo think that the 111 building on this rendering is shown a little taller than it would be.

The Deseret News had a short story "officially" announcing 111 S Main today....no new information, but it looks like construction will be happening sooner rather than later. Which...I'm pretty sure we all already knew. But maybe it wasn't in the public sphere yet. Maybe.

Anyway, here's the link to the article: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/86558...r-coming-to-downtown-Salt-Lake-City.html

New 24-story office tower coming to downtown Salt Lake City
By Jasen Lee, Deseret News
Published: Monday, Sept. 30 2013 6:50 p.m. MDT

SALT LAKE CITY — The downtown skyline is getting ready to change again.

Cushman & Wakefield Commerce announced Monday the planned development of a new downtown 24-story office building to be located on Main Street. The 111 Main Office Tower — designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and developed by Hamilton Partners — will be directly adjacent to the new Utah Performing Arts Center.

The ground floor will feature retail space, while the upper floors offer 440,000 rentable square feet of office area with the average floor size consisting of 21,000 square foot customizable sections, column-free design, floor-to-ceiling glass, with 9-foot ceilings and 16-inch raised floors throughout.

“This beautifully designed architectural icon reflects the strength of Utah’s prime urban center in Salt Lake City,” said Chris Kirk, senior director of office and investments for Cushman & Wakefield Commerce.

You're right, we all pretty much assumed it was going to happen in conjunction with the PAC construction, but to have it officially announced is so exciting.

Do to it's design, high profile location and proximity to City Creek Center, I think the retail space would be a fantastic location for a, Reaction, by Kenneth Cole, store or a full line Kenneth Cole store. By the time the tower opens I may just have some money that I could shop there.

On a similar note, neumont is looking fresh and adding lots of vibrancy to Main Street. I saw hoards of students today.

The church is on the corner with a lot of land around it. From the renderings, you see that the Hope Lodge goes all the way to the edge of the property on the west side and goes far beyond the church to the north.

Also, a building that old would cost more to retrofit than to build new.

I think it looks great, but could look better if that prefab "stone" wasn't quite so orange.

Has anybody else notice that the design of 111 south main in the rendering that the deseretnews had has changed?

Compare the two renderings from that same view in the Deseret news story and 111 south main's website and there's a difference.

Projects, Are you referring to the newly approved top? I notice a difference there, though the rendering doesn't make it real clear. Zooming up the size, it appears pretty cool, as if there will be an interesting array of structural support showing through the exterior glass.

PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING WILL BEGIN AT 6:00 PM IN ROOM 326
APPROVAL OF MINUTES FOR AUGUST 28, 2013
REPORT OF THE CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR
REPORT OF THE DIRECTOR
PUBLIC HEARING(S)

http://www.slcdocs.com/Planning/Planning%20Commission/2013/911agn.pdf

...The proposed building is located in the D-1 Downtown Central Business District. Buildings of 375 feet in height are allowed without special review at this location, additional height is allowed though conditional building and site design review process. The petitioner is asking for 387 feet in height. The additional height requested is to accommodate a parapet wall at the top of the building to screen mechanical equipment...

People should be careful when reviewing someone's idea for the development of a Convention Center Hotel. There is nothing official at this time and no mechanism to fund it yet. I have seen other plans for the CCH on the same block that look wildly different. There is no official development team or architecture firm on the project. I don't think there's anything wrong with having a discussion, I just don't want people to think that this drawing is anything more than a grand idea.

The Hope Lodge will be significantly larger than the existing LDS chapel on the site. The building has been empty for some time and the interior is in very rough shape. It would be expensive to renovate it for a similar use but almost impossible for the proposed use.

I was walking yesterday and noticed that the Cityscape Apartments are pretty much done. Their office was open on site. The same company has property on 500 East as well. It's a similar sized property so I would assume a similar development.

I noticed the same as well SLCProjects. The Accordian design element is gone an they added the parapet wall.

I'm sure the accordian design is not gone. It's just not nearly as pronounced in that particular rendering.

Thanks John for that photo update. Neumont is looking great. Also, glad to see the tree removed at that location and placed elsewhere. I'm a tree hugger and I could tell that that spruce was always struggling. The flower bed is much more attractive.

Regarding 111, I think, in general, it's a nice addition to downtown and the skyline. I like the clean glass look. However, there is a huge flaw in its design. The design is so monolithic that it does not really account for the UPAC crashing into its side! Hello Architects! Are you awake! Did you not know that there's this huge building crashing into your lower right side?! Try breaking up the massing to accommodate this! I think they didn't use the same architects from 222. I know it's the same company, SOM, but probably not the same designer. The designer of 222 was very good at relating to the masses of the different buildings around it. It was context sensitive in that regard. 111 is not context sensitive in that regard. Big mistake!! I think this will look rather embarrassing for SOM when it's all said and done.

Also, are we going to get that awful look of random/haphazard look of window curtains on all sides of the building? The design is so clean and transparent, but do you think the occupants are not going to pull down shades at random heights? Have any of you seen the backside of 222 with the haphazard look of the shades pulled down at different heights?

Idea on number of units?

I've also thought of that. I hope that won't be the case. I have to wonder why the zig zag shape was scrapped. I really liked it. it would have made the building change lighting as the day went on.
