That project died with the sale of the building. Who knows what the new owners want..........or maybe someone does know, I don't know.

Saw a worker in cityplace today with a large stack of blueprints. Noticed the top one was titled “Second Floor Demolition”. I guess they’ll be moving along with the renos in the very near future. You can also see into the new remodeled office space in the northeast corner of the 2nd floor now. Number 10 Architect sign in the window. New or expansion office space for them or?

Number 10 Architect were the ones that designed it...hence the sign

I talked to a developer about this building, as it seems such a no-brainer for redevelopment.

Basically what was explained to me is that the floor plate size and orientation makes it difficult to make condos work from a budget/profit point of view - hence the reason it has sat for so long.

Hopefully someone has figured out a way to make it work. It's a great building, and great location.

I remember reading the same thing. Not sure if it was misinformation or not since that location in portage place had opened at around the same time that was was posted.

I remember seeing in one of the SHED renderings showing Centre Ventre head office located at that North-East 2nd floor corner. They put in windows (like what was done for Shark Club) I don't know how reliable that rendering is though.

cityplace looks amazing in that rendering - those windows on the second floor, faux or not are well suited to it as are the awnings. I was checking out the building the other day and looks like there are panels of sorts where those windows could be. Sure hope something like that is part of the reno.

I couldn't find any pictures online to back me up, but I'm pretty sure I recall seeing photos of this building from before its 1970s renovations in which there was glass in that space before. So in a way putting glass into the second storey part of the facade would be restoring the building back to the way it originally was.

That would be a pretty good location for Centreventure, mainly because moving there would free up a prime spot for a retail-oriented business on Main Street.

^^^ Agreed. This is a beautiful building with so much potential in a prime location. Opening it up at street level works for me. The SHED website shows renderings of Hargrave closed off to traffic with this sort of idea:

I know the Shark Club is, and since I quit/got suspended and fired from there, thats about all I could tell you about that place. apparently, business has gone up. That and putting up the wrong number on Google for me to call in sick to and for customers to call, was a pretty bad mistake...

Well the idea is nice recent history has shown us repeatedly that having ground floor retail with a mall enterance and a sidewalk enterance does not work well in downtown Winnipeg. The most recent example is the Portage Place Shopper's who quickly learned that mistake first hand and closed off street level access permanently. Other have tried it before too like HMV. Also the concept of enterance from the mall and the street was the original vision for Portage Place.

I think there might be more potentinal if the Hargrave side of CityPlace was more cafes and resturants with patios on the street level, that could work well but would mean moving a bank, MLCC and walk-in clinic among others. Personally I think it might be a smart idea to close up all the MLCC stores within the SHED before it is an issue. Replace them when a store catering to the condo owners in the east Exchange and locate it there.
