Yeah it will be fairly dense (it already is actually). Which is why I feel like it needs sidewalks and easier access (pedestrian, cycling and maybe vehicular) to Bonaventure.

The new one will be on that square lot with the soccer field behind it, Macpherson and town houses on one side and Holy Heart on the other.

When were sidewalks added? I’ve walked it in the last couple weeks and they didn’t have them at the top at that time.

I don’t know what the logic is on why they never added a sidewalk. It’s not like its way in the suburbs. With that density and location one would assume a sidewalk would be a given. Without sidewalks it’s difficult for these to function as anything other than a suburban condos… which is a waste in that location.

However, I think this street would be really easy to improve with a few minor changes because it has so much going for it.

I think the fact that pedestrian access to Bonaventure is currently along a path through the grass and bushes (that’s from people trying to cut through it so often that it formed a path) really highlights problem. Maybe these new projects will lead to some changes.

From what I understand, I believe O'Leary referenced it recently, sidewalks were in the process of being installed.

I just find that with the street being so short the cost and maintenance of sidewalks would be a bit of a waste of money. However, it will get pretty dense so traffic will likely become a concern for pedestrians.

It looks like the Steele hotel will be topped out soon. They have started the walls on the 6th floor (assuming it is 6 stories). I can’t believe a building could be built in our downtown and there is no render made available to the public. I know people have commented on that fact a million times here – but it really is amazing. Was there ever a LUAR for this project?

I emailed a councillor on it, maybe Debbie Hanlon, and they responded about looking into the design but I never heard back. That was a long time ago.

I think it's a Ferrari 430, with the two wide gapping openings in the lower front pushed way to the sides.

My mother works at the Albatross in Gander; I asked her to try to find out any information she can. It's along shot, but anything would be news.

If you look at the concrete that is poured there now for the Steele hotel site on Water Street, you will notice that there are protrusions that stick out like in the original design where the Juliet balconies go. Those protrusions don't seem to be on the the other design which everyone hates. Just a thought.

Good call. I didn’t notice that. Hopefully you’re right. I don’t find the first “render” very inspiring, but it’s much better than the second.

I stand corrected on the sidewalks on Margaret’s Place. I walked along the brand new sidewalks today. Based on the fact that the asphalt around them hasn’t been filled in yet I’d guess they were put in last week. Anyways, I think it's a huge improvement.

Also, I noticed they have added the tubing that will keep the ice path frozen in Bannerman Park. It looks great so far. I’m excited for this and I think it’s a great and interesting addition to the city. I’ll take some pictures next time and share.
