I seem to remember hearing that as well. But I keep thinking it was for Glasshouse. Maybe it's both.

Why does St Mary's Cathedral have to sell it's land to make it developable?

Things look positive for So-Po.

I'm really hopeful for this one...I like the scale....smaller buildings...more achievable....urban.

not a fortress built to keep people from ever venturing out on to the streets where its apparently -35C every day of the year.

No, not yet. Sounds exciting though. I think the talk of this being a long shot are effectively false.

Good enough ! I'm glad you feel optimistic, thier have been a few posts lately that were putting this project in the not going to happen category. Thx.

The Spot? Condo's in South Winnipeg? Interesting location.

It looked like there was a new sign up at the old Monty's location too.

I did say earlier "sell/lease", just missed on the last one. That said though, I am not sure how the goverance documents of the church are structured. Would those documents allow to to build a commerical space that is not explictly for thier purpose that they would then lease out? Would leasing such as space out to a resturant/bar that is most likely to be in the SHED in keeping with their organizational mission, vision and values? Honsetly, from what I know the church owning the property and leasing it to say Boston Pizza or Moxie's for example seems like a poor fit other than the cash flow side of things. For these reasons I think it would make more sense for the church to sell the parking lot to a developer and then invest the proceeds from the sale into something which is mose closer aligned to their mandadte if long term revenue is the goal.

I have friends who purchased there, Piles will be going in by years end. Then they take another break till spring and that's when full scale construction starts. I don't understand the need for another the break, but no one in this city seems to be in a rush to complete projects. (or get started!) Move in is mid 2015 now. When my friends first put their deposits down, they were told possession was spring 2014. A year late now.

I don't believe that to be true. I inquired about this project early this year, and the start date was going to be late 2013 or early 2014, with completion sometime in 2015.

Believe what you want. I read all the paper work of transactions between the lawyers , real estate agent, and my friends. They now have the option of backing out because they are not going to be able to move in by the original proposed time. Construction was to be already started this spring, and because they are on the floor just above the parkade (the 6th floor), their suite was to be ready by the 6th month of 2014 at latest. (I will be seeing them again this weekend. I will double check my accuracy)

Don't be so defensive. You might have just got your dates mixed up or something. No big deal.
