- Medical Arts surface lot/Pinnacle building redevelopment.

- the missing Lakeview hotel(s) project next to the WCC. - I guess CentreVenture doesn't feel the Lakeview proposal has any real merit

- the missing Remand expansion/renovation. - I have made inquiries to every level that may be involved in this rumour and have been told that no such project is on the horizon

It would be nice if anyone has further insights on these to have a few more details.

Can someone enlighten me about a projection that is on the Ashdown Warehouse. On the West side there is a small garage along the building and beside it is a 3 store protrusion that is in the same design of the building. Is it a stairwell for the building? If so, why doesn't it go to the top floors?

I took a picture on my phone but don't have the capability to upload it from here -- if you don't know what I'm talking about I'll post it when I get home from work.

EDIT: after looking at the picture again, there is no way that much space is needed for just a stairwell.

Damn, Biff, You are an information machine! I'd personally endorse a thread where you make weekly updates on past/present projects. " ie: "Ask Biff", Thx for the Clarifications and Info.

I think I know what you are talking about.

It is not technically on the Ashdown, it is on the building beside it. I think it is an old water tower or something like that. This gives you a better view.

Thanks for the update Biff.

I would be shocked to actually see the LakeView development happen, however it is disappointing to here that surface lot was offered in place of the Carlton Inn and CentreVenture turned them down. Honestly the LakeView location feels like a much better fit for a new WCC hotel although the WCB lot would be my top choice.

I also find it interesting that the church would be willing to sell/lease its property. I was under the possibily mistaken impression that it was extremely difficult to get churches to sell property.

Another strange question -- does anyone know if the zoning bylaw updates passed at property and development committee today?

If St Mary's Catherdal is not interested in selling their property why is their parking lot shown in the diagram as a future mixed use development? Honestly, that seems far less likely to happen than the WCB lot which I have previously been told are unlikely to see ever developed.

It's going to be considered at the November meeting instead.

The WCB land goes back to the time that Izzy Asper owned Monarch Life before his board overruled him and in 1983 sold out to North American Life. WCB later bought the building and land for their head office.

In the book Izzy by Peter C Newman, Asper says that he "bought two city blocks from Broadway right back to to the next two streets because I envisioned a monumental head office. That was fifteen years ago and those two blocks in the heart of Winnipeg are parking lots. I was planning the design, a spectacular atrium that would have made the Trump Towers look like slums". (Page 109)

Maybe if he had kept control of Monarch Life, the area around the Convention center would have had a different look.

Kudos to O'Neill&Hunter as well as Fabric Centre for still being in business in a somewhat challenging area.
Fabric Centre closed a couple of years ago.

The major fire in the building seemed to really do the Fabric Centre in as their entire inventory seemed to be written off from the smoke damage then their location was closed for several months while the building was repaired.

Went downtown today and took some pictures of the big projects (apologies for the poor quality)

In there own threads:
-Convention Center
-Centre Pointe/ALT/Glasshouse
-300 Assiniboine
-Village Area

On this page:
-Dcondos
-Upper Fort Garry
-SHED streetscaping

Still no action at the Dcondos site

Foundation at Upper Fort Garry. Hard to tell from the picture, but there is a lot of progress. I also noticed that the actual gate appears to be sinking on the west side... I assume that will be fixed in the end project.

Streetscaping at Donald and Graham. This looks like it could be the base for the first funnelator... Far to many wires for it to be a normal streetlight or a sign

Awesome stuff, thanks Duck!

Looks like they took the sign down at dcondo. Last I seen it said 40% sold, that was last week maybe.

Good news on Upper Fort Garry. Interesting to see how it turns out.

Funnelators are cool.. I hope.

I was looking at the base at Donald and Graham yesterday, I would not be surprised if that was not the base for the electrical distribution box sitting beside it. That box is sitting on solid concrete right now.

Construction should begin shortly. At this point it is pretty much a guarantee that D Condo's is going forward. 50% is more than enough to allow for construction commencement.
