Yeah, this has been a pretty slow year relatively speaking. But I think we have to realize that the previous few years have been jam packed with new developments so I think a slow year is to be expected. I agree with Jeddy that the municipal election is throwing a wrench into the development scene and once it's over we'll be seeing more coming down the pipe. However, I'd like to see some of the already approved developments get up and going before more get approved. There's a boat-load of development already in the hopper ready to go... it's just moving painfully slow.
Is the Deacon Investments development cancelled for certain? I hope not, I really like that development.
Well, we can't know for sure, but the sign advertising the building was taken down and we haven't heard anything about it since it was approved. So my guess is it's canned.. :/

Sometimes uncertainty makes it all the more interesting, the city has done well with construction recently, and I'm sure there is more to come after the present cycle. Also, I think your theories about a connection to the municipal election are probably true.
Saw some work being dine on the old "Minolta" building off Military Road. Does anyone know anything about the building bought, I know it was abandoned and in disrepair for years. Anything to that block of buildings will do wonders to the area, I'm so excited to see what it'll turn out like!
That block with the former Minolta and the old video store building needs to burn to the ground or both be bull-dozed, then let Stella Burry Centre have the property. They have proven they can build buildings the totally fit in on Military Road and old St. John's.

Are you guys talking about the building at Rawlins Cross across the street from the Hungry Heart Café? If so, I couldn’t’ agree more. That building is high up on my wish list for buildings that need to be redeveloped. It’s such a great location for some commercial space and maybe some residential in the floors above. I think it could even be expanded back into the parking lot behind and incorporate underground parking like the Stella Burry apartments across the street. I’d love to see that organization own and redevelop that property like they have with others in the area.

Yep! Saw some guys taking down the mangled awning a couple days ago. That whole block is prime real estate for any good development. So I think theres good hope for the future of the space, assuming they own the extinct video store next door
Oh! That's the building we're talking about?! Thank goodness! That's been an eyesore on a prime piece of land for far too long. Tearing it down and putting some picnic tables there would be a vast improvement over that old ramshackle graffiti plagued building. Hopefully something nice is planned for the property! I am enthusiastic for a development to occur at this location!

Bye the way, has there been a confirmation that Boston Pizza is going in 351 on the Harbour Drive side?. I had heard they were going downtown but though it was going in the old Sears location on Water Street.

Now that Fortis is at full height we can see it's tallest, thinnest angle...
And the Steel Hotel is coming along nicely as well.
I forget who, but someone also said it was going in 351. I guess we shall have to wait and see.. The garage cladding is looking good though, better than I expected. Fortis is also looking great.. just needs the wood paneling now!

Noticed on the way home today, they have started putting the wood panels on Fortis Place. They are working on the lower awning at the base of the building. It looks really nice, can't wait til they start the elevator shafts on the sides.

When you are stopped at the lights at the bottom of Hamilton Ave, you realize when looking at the Fortis building it needs to be 5 or 6 stories higher from that angle.
Thats what I hate about the limited height rules for office buildings in st johns, all the buildings are gonna be the same height and look weird. Not sayin we need to have 30 story buildings but they should be allowed to go to at least 20 stories.

Admit it... one 30 story building would be awesome!
But, yes. I am a firm believer that Fortis would have been beautifully spectacular had it been 16-20 stories tall with the same design and had the zoning permitted it, fortis probably would have proposed it. Most of our buildings would look better with a few extra stories added.. Some varied height would be great so the skyline isn't so flat and boxy. All our "skyscrapers" are short and fat. I want that to change
