1x1 Architecture designed the St Vital Park Pavilion if that is what you are referring to.

Speaking of green roofs, I heard that North Centennial Rec and Leisure Facility (by Old Ex arena) had trouble last Fall because kids would climb up onto the roof and light the dying grass on fire... I guess green roofs aren't for everywhere.

Sounds to me like an example of where maintaining facilities in the core is more expensive than elsewhere. ;-)

There are some impressive designs on their website. I love their house on Scotia Street in particular... beautiful:

I'm glad to see the proliferation of architecturally adventurous infill houses in Winnipeg's established neighbourhoods.

Was having a look at the journal of commerce. Found this one regarding the convention centre hotel.

http://www.journalofcommerce.com/cgi-bin...4dc154&projectid=9168400&region=prairies

$52M 18 storey, 250 room hotel on the Carlton Inn site. 151 stall underground parkade, to be shared with the WCC. Or the RBCCC or whatever it is now. Connected to the convention centre with a second storey walkway. Excavation expected to start early 2014 with completion in 2016.

Is anybody a subscriber? It says there's info available about the architect, etc to subscribers. Either way, we'll see how accurate that report is.

Also of interest, East End Arena 3rd rink is to start construction in September with completion October 2014.

This dev. is something I'm happy about as well. Any infrastructure addditions and renovations that benift and keep chidren active, healthy and (out of trouble), is always a good thing in my view. Even for us non kids too.

So those are real pictures as opposed to renderings, correct? Looks like one of the horizontal lights are having issues. Otherwise they look like nice shiny drawings! I guess that tells you how good computer graphics have come.

Hotel looks nice though, I like the dark coloured brick.

What's the latest word on SoPo Square in the unfortunately-named SHED? Is it still in the feasibility study stage?

I was at Tavern United yesterday evening looking out on the great asphalt void to the south and I was hoping that construction would have started by now...

The 1 year time period expires this fall, possibly September, for preliminary designs/proposals from Longboat/Artis. We should be seeing something soon for the residential proposals on the Donald lot.

Edit: Maybe the time period has expired already. This article http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakin...PIs-downtown-parking-lots-160708605.html is dated June 28, 2012.

I wonder if I'll live to see "Tuxedo" stretched all the way to the Perimeter.

I'm assuming the 3rd rink will go on the current soccer fields? I really hope they do something about parking. I live near the arena on Melrose and there isn't enough parking there currently for 2 rinks. If the Parking Authority wanted to make their quotas they'd hang out in the area during hockey season. Lots of blocked fire hydrants.

With the ice shortage I wonder if there has been any thought about building an iceplex type facility at Buhler Park. Not like you need these facilities in the middle of a residential area, nobody walks to hockey practice anymore.
