Frustrated

I know, every time I drive out the North-end it cry a little bit inside seeing all the on going sprawl and when I think of the cost of everything that is going in, plus the price to keep it up to standard.. its just so frustrating, it took me sometime to wake up and see what was going on and now that I do, its sad.

I hate to say it but it might be time for some change in councilors and possibly in the position of mayor.

As for the Provincial Government, that is just an all around disappointment... I really feel we need someone who cares about the province as a whole.

The house at the corner of Botsford & Victoria has now been leveled. Looks like this project is now beginning.

With the exception of the two eastmost buildings, everything was flattened about two weeks ago at the old military base site. They just started installing the concrete forms to create the cross shape.

Foundation being poured at the Bostford & Victoria project. Footprint is small. The above photo looks bigger than it actually is.

More good news for St George street. Harry's Pizza has opened a second location within the Commerce House building (St-George&Archibald). http://www.harryspizza.ca/#rt-mainbody-panel

The footprint is extremely small, its not much bigger than the house that was originally there, its definitely not going to be the size they show in the picture, but its infill and that is always good!

New idea for repurposing old Moncton High
Crossman says building could be used for recreation

Jason Chevrier Aug 20, 2013 12:44:03 PM
News 91.9

MONCTON, N.B. – The old Moncton High School building could be repurposed into a recreational hub for the area, if a city councillor has his way.

Ward 1 Councillor Shawn Crossman thinks the historic M-H-S building could be used for recreational purposes once the structure is abandoned at the end of the upcoming school year.

Crossman says his vision would incorporate the school’s gym and theatre and would see the addition of a community pool or rock climbing wall.

He says the timing is perfect considering the possibility that the aging East End pool on Fergus Street could be closing, leaving area residents with few recreational options.

Crossman says he’s not sure how much his idea would cost, but he’s confident the price would be affordable if the city can partner with the province on the project.

Meanwhile, Cross is also showing his support for the building of the new Moncton High School off Elmwood Drive, saying the project will have updated technology and a clean air system that will make for a better learning environment for both students and teachers.

Sounds great, and I'll commend the councillor for making the suggestion, but wouldn't it still have to be brought up to code for $45MM (plus whatever requirements a pool would entail)? The province didn't want to spend that money for school purposes, and the city didn't want to spend a few hundred thousand to fix the East End pool.

I'm sure that number was inflated to justify the new school's price.

And bringing it up to School code (with all the classrooms and wiring and plumbing needs needed to service a school of that size) is probably different from the requirements for a Recreation building. (Bigger rooms, consolidated bathrooms, different electrical needs).

Why Myles, are you suggesting that the provincial government was anything less than completely truthful in making it's case to relocate MHS as close to the Kent South boundary as humanly possible?!?

Curious does anyone know whats going on, on St. George St.... One of the empty lots is being Fenced in with a large wooden fence but they seem to be leaving a large opening on High St... a couple months back I seen people surveying that lot, i'm sure its nothing but I am curious as to what might be going on.

Not sure. Hopefully another in-fill apartment building.

I notice this yesterday as well. It's a massive fence. Not sure what the heck is up with that, but it's completely out of the norm.

Can't see anyone building a fence this fortified before building anything else on a lot.

Maybe the city is going to corral all prostitutes and meth addicts in to it... sorry bad joke..

I drove by again today and there is two options they are putting up a fence to hide the empty lot and they will just put a for sale sign up or they are going to start construction on another apartment, but like I said before they were surveying the property a few months ago so I guess we can think what we want until we see an excavator and other equipment on site.

It may be to keep the patrons of Harvest House from using it as a hang-out spot?

I saw the post's/fence going in as well the other day and it seemed excessive for a construction barrier...perhaps it's being turned into a private paid parking lot or something useless like that?

It won't be long before this massive 7' wall gets plastered with adds and graffiti. Welcome to St-George st. Just when things were looking up, someone had to...

It isn't really that tall. I'm still betting on construction fence.
