Love the proposal for 109th Street but I'm sure the neighbourhood surronding those developments will put up a big stink about those plans. Would love to see all of that come to fruition though.

I could not agree more. It is about time that some of those ratty apartments and single storey retails disappear between Whyte Ave and Saskatchewan Drive and something of quality go up. Love the renderings!

I also really like the vision that has been created for 109 street and becomes reality, sooner rather than later.

The portion of 109th street north of Whyte Ave as it is now, with it's narrow sidewalks, wide street and no landscaping, makes it look like an ugly bald spot between Garneau and Strathcona which are both lined with mature trees. For a commercial zone, this is extremely uninviting as a pedestrian or a cyclist and i've always felt uncomfortable walking there, particularly during rush hour when cars constantly wiz by 3 feet away from me...

Honestly. Calgary spends an incredible amount of capital to build an airport tunnel and reduce their already low drive times from the Core and YYC...Aaand Edmonton looks at another rejuvenation attempt to a dilapidated industrial area that chokes flow from our core to EIA. Yeh I'm sure the "auto orientated strip malls" will definitely give companies an incentive to base operations in Downtown Edmonton.

Exactly, I like the concept, and really think it's a corridor that can have much more density. But the city needs to slow traffic down along 109 if they want people to live there. It's a similar problem to Fort Rd where they want to build a TOD, but basically turned the roadway into a mini-freeway. Who'd want to live there? Even full-time parking would help.

Confirmed.. New Parkinson's centre will be located at 112th ave & 86st, NEC. Site has been fenced off

For the cranespotters out there, a crane at the PCL hq is being erected today.

Saw sections being docked there on Thursday and Friday, but didn't say anything.

Not a rant, but a cold-hearted truth. I have lost count of the number of WTFs I've heard from business colleagues when they travel to Edmonton and get ferried along Gateway. What a complete ship-hole.

Its pretty sad when 50 St 75 St and 91St are way better looking than Gateway!!

We don't need another planter or decorative rock that looks like shit.

Over/under passes at 34 Ave...51 Ave....Argyle Rd and Whyte Ave.

Move MOST if not all this light to heavy Industrial to new or existing Industrial parks.

Dam they missed a great opportunity to remove hair pin turn whilst building bridge and realignment of Queen Elizabeth Rd.

There were plans to fix the hairpin at Saskatchewan Drive a few years ago. But that got killed because the idiot transportation planners decided to include more lanes to Gateway as part of the plan, which brought the anti-freeway hysterics out of the woodwork. It's my belief that these assclowns added the lanes just to sabotage this initiative. Just like my inner conspiracy theorist thinks that city admin jack up the estimates of certain projects so that they don't go ahead.

You are right. Its a page out of "Yes Minister". Bureaucrats lead stupid elected officials by the leash...in the direction the Bureaucrats want - as the elected officials have no knowledge to draw upon. Take Iveson's position on lets not do any LRT MillWoods-West unless we do the whole thing at once. That position would result in nothing being done...ever. Unless that is what he really wants shut the frick up. Hello Don - Federal funds only available for whats on the drawing board NOW...take it or leave it for a very long time...duh.

I had a conversation with a VP of an Energy firm that currently has some staff located in Nisku. When asked about working in a downtown location He basically said the entire core is inaccessible from EIA and the related O&G work in Nisku/Leduc. It's incredible that we are building a brand new Bridge that is only accessible from what are effectively residential roads at the top of the valley.
