Also if you are too old to walk to the MTS Centre from a block or two than you are probably too old to be sitting or standing for three hours enduring the 110+ decibels of rock music/hockey games. Ask the soldier from Lake of the Woods if he has any problems with this new "Lack of drop off zones". What a ridiculous thing to whine about.

This looks fantastic compared to what the streetscaping looked prior to this work(sidewalk).Great improvement, one street at a time if that's what it takes.

The MTS Centre has seats idiot. Have a little fucking empathy for people who have difficulty walking.

I'm not old either, you try "walking a block or two" once your knees and hips are gone.

Pretty sure the vast majority of people who attend the venue have their knees and hips, as well as most of their muscles and joints, intact. For the very few that don't, there is ample space to take 15 seconds to drop them off close to the entrance. They also have the option of taking a handi-transit bus.

I had to take a double-take on these pics. I thought I was looking at downtown St. Paul, MN for a second. I really like the clean, urban look to that street now. I think they did a great job thus far.

Can anyone tell me what that building to the left of the MET is, and what it's used for? I really like the look of it.

That's part of the met complex and I think in part its where the kitchen is.

It's hard to say, if your looking across the st. from the MTS Centre(pic 2), the building to the left would be 298 portage ( 8 storeys)???, which is some kind of bargain store/money mart combo. If you look at the last picture to the left (the new addition) to the met it probably is exactly what you said. Someone will correct me

One of the biggest concerns from the elderly community in Thunder Bay over our multiplex was that it was too close to the lake and on a slope, which mean that there was a risk of people in wheelchairs sliding down an icy hill and ending up in the lake, and those who could walk would likely struggle with the 5% grade.

If you are too old to walk for a block then you are probably too old to handle such an intense environment for long periods on end. In case you didn't notice the seats are not Lazy Boys. For those who can't walk for a block they have the handicap drop offs which I also stated earlier. My point? Those who can't walk, they have access right beside the arena. Those who can, get off your asses and walk. Try to refrain from the language next time, and read over things properly before resorting to name calling.

I initially missed the part where Shinook said to the left.

To the left (north) is the 9 story Somerset Place building, built in 1908. (http://www.publiccapital.ca/somerset.html). I have heard stories (not sure if they were true) that at one time this building was paying more in reality tax than the St. Vital shopping center was due to its location next to the downtown Eaton's

To the right (south) is the new addition to the Met which I believe that forum member True Viking or his firm had a hand in designing. The rooftop patio part of the lounge is located on top of this addition.

If this is (was) Bricks Fine Furniture, there are several government depts. moving in there. The Apprenticeship Branch is one of them.

The Employment & Training office on Henderson was supposed to move there but the employees didn't want to and threatened to retire en masse. The move was cancelled.

Yeah, I really like that building (er, unless I'm going crazy and it's not 111 Lombard). My wife works there, she moved in just after the renovation was complete and she says the building looks great inside and out. I keep meaning to go meet her for lunch, she insists I'd love Ira's Deli. Easy prediction really, historically I'm at about a 100% satisfaction rate with any place with "deli" in the name.


Not really related, but there's some rumblings about one of the tenants at 355 Portage looking at the empty CCBT building(s) at 445 Ellice as a possible site. But we've heard about potentially moving before, and being comically short on space at ACC hasn't triggered a move to a bigger location yet. I'll believe it when I'm packing my crap into boxes to move there too (my office is currently at HSC, but we've been apparently moving to ACC for ages).
