It's really hard to take photos of LED screens. CRT screens are fun, the picture gets that slow moving horizontal line effect.

update of the BRT in markham..

Quote:
Here's a quick update from my way to work today:

The Rapidways and intersections have been paved in red asphalt. Bike lanes are painted, but blocked by pylons. I had to ride in the curb traffic lane, and I got honked at by someone who told me to get off the road.

The stops seem pretty close to finished. All the fare machines seem to be installed and the Next Bus displays are running. For a while last week they were actually displaying next bus information, but they've since chaged to messages such as "Visit yrt.ca" or "Stay cool and hydrated" on hot days.

Dalhousie Station - Calgary

18 300 boardings per weekday in 2008, probably over 21 000 now. Was the terminus station of the NW Line until Crowfoot Station opened in 2009.

Wouldn't ridership drop as it is no longer the terminus? All the bus transfers would instead go to the new station. Finch station in toronto has over 101,000 boardings, but the vast majority are bus transfers. By comparison, the station 800m down the street in a similar density area has 27,000 boardings.

The city has grown by around 100 000 people since Crowfoot opened. Dalhousie is still a major transfer point for busses. Crowfoot has 12 bus routes operating from it, Dalhousie has 13. I think before the expansion, there wasn't much service to the far Northwest area regardless. Perhaps someone who has lived in Calgary for more than 15 months could shed some light on this

Just before Dalhousie, both Brentwood and University Stations also have high ridership, especially for an area which has 3 stations within about a kilometer of each other. These are the 2008 numbers only. The ridership has definitely grown much more than this.

Brentwood - 14 900/ weekday
University - 16 100
and then Banff Trail - 5 600

Since 2009, Ctrain ridership has increased by over 20 000 per weekday.

WOW! has Hwy 7 ever changed since I last drove on it. So on top of the BRT they added bike lanes as well. All the while maintaining 3 lanes of traffic in both directions with proper turning lanes. It sure looks like a big city street now, I'm impressed.

I agree. Probably the nicest looking suburbia street I've seen.

I was on highway 7 last week and was shocked to see all the changes! Those new bus lanes and terminals plus the bike lanes, it was very much needed in my opinion. Great to see some progress!

Very cool! The new stations (except for the temp. one at NAIT) look amazing! Was the tunnel bored or cut&cover?

Looks like Hamilton is going to take a serious look at building a gondola up the Escarpment. The plan will go back to council for vote and city staff will review the location and cost of an gondola.

Amazing construction update of Vancouver's (Burnaby, Port Moody, Coquitlam) Evergreen Line thanks to Red Paladin and Elysia17.

Burquitlam station support column construction.

Drilling for final column before crossing over Clark:

Transition column construction prior to South Portal Entrance:

Prep work around Inlet Center Station:

A couple other notes:

Around the future Moody Center station they are demo old buildings to make room for the tracks/station. Also clearing away trees down the rail right-of-way.

They have partially closed the bus loop at Lougheed, and are beginning to erect scaffolding around the columns for the station expansion. Column construction will work towards Lougheed from Burquitlam, so nothing besides the past road widening has been done atm.

It's projected to serve 70 000 people per day in 2021, however, it opens in 2017... and I don't have a number for initial ridership, though it will be very high for a brand new line as it will be taking the place of a very busy BRT route.
