Took a few pictures Sunday evening. A few things changed since last time I looked at the building like the balconies are painted and most of the railings are installed.

^The custom unit that Onni created on the 19th floor (which resulted in the asymmetry in the spandrel), still hasn't sold after almost 6 months on the market. Asking about $1,000/SF...FAIL!

That mess of spandrel at the top is inconceivable.

1) The renders didn't look that bad.
2) Vancouver has low standards
3) UDP loves mediocre designs
4) Crappy glass and spandrel are on sale! 90% off while supplies last! (Supplies are infinite)

Blech. I had somewhat defended the building, looking at it only from the southwest/west, but that side is far worse.

That is by far the worst side of the building.

Why was all of that spandrel used so haphazardly on the upper 3 floors?

Great, I was just thinking to ask if anyone really sent anything. Please send a follow-up to her, as we need a public servant to be giving us a reason for this horrific thing to go up.

Will do Klazu! If anything it will make someone in the UDP give their decisions a second thought and will let them know some of us are on to their ineptitude.

Hahaha!

if only the dark mullions and spandrel were used like the original rendetings indicated this building would have turned at least above average.

http://www.rew.ca/properties/V1002006/1901-1372-seymour-street-vancouver

The floorplan is on the building website (1901): http://www.themarkvancouver.com/#/Floorplans

Maybe there was a structural reason they did this? I have no idea why you would place a walled off "flex" room where you could otherwise have a window.

Either way the asymmetry shouldn't have been allowed to happen.

The asymmetry on the 19th floor in nothing compared to the gong-show hodgepodge going on on the last 4 floors, visible from as far away as Oak and King Edward when driving into Vancouver! It was the focus of my complaint to City Hall.

What do you think was the purpose or what were the developers trying to symbolize with the last 4 floors? Hopefully we get an explanation for this from the city.

Dunno if this link will work or not, but you might be onto something.

(although it does seem ambiguous, I will admit)

Is Orange the New Seafoam Green?

From my unit at Azura 2 across the street I was surprised to see such bright orange on the Mark. From the renders I expected some sort of wood paneling which would have given a more cool contemporary vibe. Like the rooftop pool but otherwise the lower section with the orange looks like a 70's motel with the outside stairs and balconies running the length of the building. Like the orange on the Rolston.

Also, there is vertical gray siding/concrete(?) that goes up the entire side of the building facing Pacific between the balconies and the spandrel. Each section has 4 predrilled holes. Any idea what is going to be attached there?
