I can see Westjet (Westjet Vacations?) as 4 x Cancun, 2 x Puerto Vallarta, 1 x Cabo San Lucas, and 1 x Mazatlan.

I am sure there was one other that disappeared over the last couple of days (either Puerto Vallarta or Cabo San Lucas; I cannot remember). That would make a loss of one over last year. That would be due to the loss of the Sunquest deal.

Life continues.

Thanks Tuffyy for the Transat update. I always have trouble finding out what they are going to do.

By the way, I think it is about the time in the market cycle when new tour companies should start up. There are only a few players left, and their business is looking better these days. It is time for speculation, perhaps?

With Rouge stepping in with paid for systems and lots of future growth capacity, it would be super risky.

Rouge is strictly concentrating on YYZ and YUL this winter. They have stated they will concentrate on 4 primary gateways in due time, i suspect YYZ, YUL, YYC and YVR are going to be the major source of action.

They more recently added more destinations from the East for the upcoming winter with YYZ-LAS, YYZ-CUN etc being added. I suspect nothing major will occur out west until winter 2014. With this occuring we may see secondary carriers like Transat and Sunwing focus even more on other cities such as Edmonton, Ottawa, Winnipeg etc...

With Sunwing already showing signs of A larger YEG commitment it could be a sign of developing a broader market share into a market as to avoid a head on battle with Rouge.

With Transat scaling back both its widebody fleet and network it could be in the airlines best interest to expedite its addition of planned 738's to expand itself into a more diverse market particularly in the sun destination catergory.

Rouge will be a game player for the current Leisure airlines and I think they have already taken note and begun to explore new ground.

On another note it does appear that WestJet will be resuming Maui and Honolulu from Edmonton and Calgary once again this winter. I assume it will be with leased 752's again although the website is indicating 738's in the seat map section.

In addition I have heard (purely rumor) they may lease larger 763's this winter.

To my knowledge WJ did not fly nonstop to HNL from YEG last year or any other year. Tuffy is their some indication that HNL is a nonstop?

-Mazatlan 1x week.
-Puerto Vallarta 1x week.
-Ixtapa 1x week (New for 2013/14).

Jamaica.

-Montego Bay 1x week.

Cuba.

Varadero 2x week (3 during peak season).
Cayo Coco 1x week (now nonstop was via YYC last season)
Cayo Santa Maria 1x week.

In addition as mentioned by Mode, Grand Bahama Island (Freeport?) is being touted as a Edmonton Destination to Travel Agents. I would assume a Weekly flight when its official.

Transat so far is indicating the following.

Mexico.

-Cancun 2x week (operated by larger A332 for longer period).
-Puerto Vallarta 1x week.
-Huatulco 1x week.
-Manzanillo 1x week (New for 2013/14 operated by Enerjet 73G)

Costa Rica.

-Liberia 1x week.

Panama.

-Panama city 1x week.

Jamaica.

-Montego Bay 1x week.

Cuba.

-Varadero 1x week.

Dominican Republic.

-Punta Cana 1x week.
-Puerto Plata 1x week.

As mentioned still very early and plenty of changes still coming...
Do we know how many of these flights are non stop?
For example I believe the Sunwing flight to Jamaica connected through Regina last year.
And speaking of Sunwing their on time history has had issues in recent years. Are they planning to improve that aspect of their service?

HNL looks to be from YYC this year once again, I included it in the sentence since I also mentioned Calgary. Again its super early so you never know if it will be included from YEG or not this year. OGG appears 3x week again from YEG at this point.

As mentioned it is only July so you may see a number of adjustments and possibly new flights added as your winter season approaches.

Rocket, Sunwing has been known to suffer from some heavy delays usually due to Mechanical problems. This was usually the result of keeping its aircraft busy during the winter months and not having any spare aircraft to cover mechanical aircraft. Keep in mind over the winter most of the 738's are leased from various carriers in Europe and include flight crew's from the respective airline providing the lease. I would hope they lease some additional aircraft this winter to reduce delays.

Thanks Tuffyy for all the great input you provide to this thread.

A HNL flight from YEG would greatly be appreciated. Perhaps on a trial basis similar to the Maui flight to gauge interest? I am sure there would be interest. We have taken the Maui flight with the leased 757s from WestJet and liked the daytime scheduling. Perhaps a scheduling on some of the other open days for HNL would work.

What I find frustrating is the ability to find sun schedules from the major airlines - Thanks goodness we have some individuals on this thread that can provide them.

Also looks like United's mainline YEG-DEN flight is operated by a 757-200 today.

I wonder if this is the only time YEG has been served by a United 757.

I guess it must have been a scheduling change due to aircraft unavailability. But they usually substitute the 319 with the 320 (and vice versa)

They have scheduled the 320 on a permanent basis in place of the 319 for the remainder of season on the DEN-YEG mainline flight.

I do believe this will be the first UA 752 for YEG.

I believe the only other 757 that makes a appeance is the FedEx 752F operated by morningstar that operates in the wee hours of the morning from Winnipeg.

And once again, this thread is littered with flights to sun destinations and the permafrost.

C'mon YEG, please get some real flights to some real metropolitan centres, especially to Europe.

Sorry to rant, but Jeebuz. I'll be retired before I will be able to enjoy a direct flight to the continent.

^ well, my suggestion is this. If you want to really avoid LHR, use the YEG-EWR flight. It can get you within one stop to most major centres in Europe.

even if we did get a flight to FRA, it will never eliminate the one-stop connection trip.

EWR? Go through US customs here, and then potentially having to go through security again in EWR to make a connecting flight in an adjacent terminal?

That, and the added time from a longer distance voyage due to making a connection in eastern Canada or the US...

I just got back from Europe using LHR - and moved through the "in transit" zone easily with no issues and arrived in my next destination where I went through EU control. Same process when I returned from continental EU through LHR - again the only thing was in transit carry-on security check (no passport check what so ever). This from T3 to T1 and from T1 to T3 (T1 is domestic UK and EU and T3 is where AC currently based out). With the new and redevelopment's at T2 at LHR being carried out - this will be improved further. If I flew into FRA - I would be getting a connection "somewhere" anyway. Who goes to FRA as a final destination??? No one really - its a HUB only. You either connect there on another flight or catch a train. Nothing wrong with LHR and it is after all...London.

As Sunwing continues to expand its winter line-up, the operator is pleased to announce new flights and vacation packages to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Mexico from five Canadian gateway cities. Toronto departures are available on Mondays from December 23, 2013 to April 7, 2014; Montreal flights operate on Tuesdays from December 17, 2013 to March 4, 2014; from Edmonton, Vancouver and Kelowna Sunwing departs on Thursdays between December 19, 2013 and April 3, 2014.
With golden sun-kissed beaches and a rugged mountainous backdrop, Ixtapa offers upscale shopping, lively entertainment and activities galore like hiking, horseback riding, snorkelling, diving, surfing, and deep-sea fishing. Golfers will also enjoy the view as they tee off from one of 2 world-class 18-hole golf courses including a course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., which is considered one of Mexico’s finest.
Zihuatanejo, with its unique charm, attracts those looking for a more tranquil and laid-back atmosphere. This picturesque destination, once a favourite of backpackers, features a quaint fishing village appeal, a thriving arts and crafts scene, and a variety of beachfront local eateries that offer a taste of the “real Mexico”. Zihuatenejo is also a haven for active travellers and beach-hoppers.
Sunwing offers a wide selection of hotels and resorts in both destinations to suit any budget. All inclusive accommodations in Ixtapa include the Fontan Ixtapa Beach Resort and the Presidente Intercontinental Ixtapa, while offerings in Zihuatanejo include the Hotel Villa Mexicana and the Hotel Irma. All Sunwing Vacations flights and packages to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo include “Sunwing Airlines’ Champagne Service”, which features hot towel service, a choice of hot meals at lunch and dinner served with a choice of wine, and complimentary in-flight entertainment, including first run movies, as well as a generous 20kg baggage allowance. For just $40 more per flight segment, travellers can upgrade to Sunwing’s Elite Plus service, which features advance seat selection, separate check-in at a majority of airports, advance boarding, 30 kg baggage allowance, and extra legroom seats.

The end of August should prove interesting as Icelandair is scheduled to announce its expansion for 2014.

It is anticipated that YEG wil be added as a new North American gateway, should know very shortly!
