Indianpolis, a city of some 1.5 million, has a building taller than anything in Canada outside of Toronto. Same with Oklahoma City (~1 million). Mobile Alabama, with a metro pop of some 400,000 has a 227m tower.

The fact is Canadian Coporations are much too small to demand enough space to fill 200m+ towers. Most U.S. cities will house at least one major corporation that could potentially fill a supertall.

The data doesn't support your claim. Cherry picking a building here and there in this city or that only proves there are exceptions to the rule. If you look at typical US and Canadian cities of the same size, the Canadian city is not only denser, but taller.

Great composition in that photo. Montreal is the classic north American skyline: buildings of every era and wonderful layering. Besides height the one thing missing was a good inventory of newer skyscrapers, but that's being rectified. Maybe in 2020, Montreal will get some height as well. A new pinnacle.

Well no, what he is saying is largely true. Due to the global influence of the United States, a lot of corporations became big and had headquarters scattered around in the various cities of the US, allowing many cities to have some rather tall towers. Canadian corporations have been typically less numerous and with less global influence backing them, resulting in less cities with such towers.
