Yes the AT bridge is all but completed. What they are doing there now is cutting out sections of the old structure, lifting the pieces onto the AT bridge and torching them apart.

You are definitely right on many accounts regarding diamond lanes. The rush hour limitations 7-9:00, 15:30-17:30 are in effect with most of the major routes. I personally disagree with this setup, more specifically for the buses than the bikes (even though I bike everywhere). I don't see how this one could be allowed, only because the diamond lane has already been pushed to the outside of the parking lanes, so allowing parking on this lane, under normal circumstance would like be allowing double parking. I will say it is a major plus for the patio though.

I have noticed a major influx of cyclists over the last couple of years, so maybe the laws will be changed to include all hours of the day/night for cyclist/bus diamond lanes.

Someone pointed out that in other cities the parked cars are used to protect the cyclist, whilst here the cyclists protect the parked cars, which to me spells a backwards mentality.

Bit of a strawman there, Chris. St. Mathews has one of the shittier bike lanes in the city, surpassed only by the bullshit "share the road" nonsense in Charlesshits. The bike lanes on assiniboine and pembina are comparable or even superior to the examples you've provided. Meanwhile, the cities you show pictures from have bike lanes as bad as St. Mathews. In all honesty, I'm surprised and pleased by the strides this city has taken in expanding bicycle infrastructure, as much as i am dismayed by its indifference towards rapid transit.

More to the point, though, that Bannatyne bike lane is always a bike lane, all day every day. The people parking there are idiots and assholes. And the city loves to ticket and tow for the slightest reason so I'm surprised they'd be allowed to park there at all.

cant wait to find out what the announcement for the wcc will be!

im guessing they will announce further details on the expansion. I believe they have found a hotel to anchor the site, because a highrise hotel was a major component of the development.

I hope they reveal more detailed renderings on how the wcc will look, and how the hotel portion of the expansion will mesh together with the convention center.

The construction trailers on site is pretty recent

Yeah, that photo was actually from about a week, maybe a week and a half ago. But it was at the same state when I went by Friday.

I, too, am looking forward to the announcement. I'm hoping they: announce construction will start right away, hotel and naming be announced, timeline for the hotel. Maybe something will be announced with the Carlton demolition?

Good points Biguc. I actually loved the Assiniboine Path, when I used to use it for my commute to work. In regards to the St. Matthews, I posted it because it is my own picture that I took on the way to school one day. I don't even know why they bother putting a "Bike Lane" on that road. The cars certainly don't treat it as such. The other cities I just grabbed some google photo's that came up. Didn't really focus on any in particular. I think what I was trying to get at is that what we see normally in other downtowns are a rare occurrence (specifically Assiniboine) in ours. Every downtown street has bike lanes on the outside of parking spaces, with absolutely no separation from motor vehicular traffic. In time though, I have seen improvements too.

I drove down Pembina the other day and was really impressed with those bike lanes. Put in phase 2 RT and I would seriously consider a move to that area for those reasons alone.

Yes, they did a great job on Pembina. I really like how simple poles go a long way in providing some sort of barrier from the rest of traffic.

Parking in the Bannatyne bike lane is pretty bad by that school near Sherbrook. Parents park in the bike lane when picking up kids. Double parking is also a big problem. Seen cops and parking patrol out there many times to keep the cars moving.

Btw, on a totally unrelated note:
The Palmerston-Aubrey water pipe upgrades, is anyone on the inside of this job and know exactly how much longer its going to be U/C. They're still going strong, making a lot of noise, and since there is no real benefit to anyone (i.e. no pedestrian walkway), the local neighbours want this to just stop. Yes, I'm complaining, so poke me.
