Just to be clear, I appreciate lilwayne’s comments and perspective on things, and I think he raises some good points. I just find his handle and use of rap lingo to be an amusing contrast with the rest of the chatter here.

Have to agree, lilwayne ''brings'' to the forum so those who don't like his writing style put him on ignore if you don't want to read what he has to say. I didn't like 1ajs writing style at first but he is a solid contributor so his grammar is easy to overlook.

Hey look! We made it a couple weeks without a discussion breaking out about how bad this thread has become!

I was actually fairly impressed with how civil the discussion was about vikings building vs wan's. That could have EASILY devolved into a nightmare if you look at the history of some discussions here.

I think the reason this discussion comes up is because this is a forum about pretty buildings and not some thread on 4chan, people assume discussion will be more adult and less troll filled. Anytime some regular internet etiquette (aka - total mess) begins to occur people take greater than normal offence to it.

I am a little worried that fortress is telling us how amazing this will be so everyone gets on board, and then like so many other things we will end up getting "version 2.0" which is 50% cheaper and 100% less grand.

Example of that could be the new hotel at portage and main. Viking, I don't know if you have great details on the new version, but was the cost scaled back when they changed architects?

No offense intended but the internet does work this way sometimes(as per link), but it doesn't mean anyone has to "accept" this as ok. It's up to the individuals posting to accept responsiblity for what they post. If it crosses the the line of respect for others that would be a different scenario.

Wife and I stopped at that patio last summer only to find it wasn't licensed. We sat on our bikes for several minutes after and many people sat down but left after finding out they couldn't get a drink.

Cars parking in bike lanes is illegal in Ontario. It's treated the same as a traffic lane, but it has greater restrictions on what kind of vehicles can use it.

What if we replaced the sidewalks in the exchange with boardwalks! Easier to replace/repair and probably a whole lot less ugly than the current sidewalks.

To the cars parked in the bicycle lane. I am pretty sure that is not legal. The boardwalk seems to be sanctioned as it is being promoted by Centre Venture. I can't see them promoting something without making sure that the restaurant in question doesn't have a licence for it.

Generally you can park in diamond lanes in Winnipeg between certain hours of the day. Rush hours are off limits but otherwise it's okay. I can't say for sure in this particular case but the last time I looked it was allowed. Mind you , the last time I looked was four years ago so maybe things have changed.

I meant those patios on that street are not licensed, as in you can't buy a beer there.

Seems to me it will be one of three things:
1. Construction is actually going to start!
2. Hotel component will be announced.
3. Naming rights to the facility have been finalized.

The crawler crane at CentrePoint`s days are numbered. Construction is progressing on the 3rd storey adjacent to the Mitchell Copp facade, with the rest of the 5 storey podium topped up at the back of the site. The crane`s painted themselves into a small corner!

Or will it move to the street to complete the podium?

Project W site is now empty of equipment, site fence remains. As we all heard, could go ahead as early as August. This site and dCondo are at a very similar state. Geotechnical testing completed(or soon will be) with construction raring to go.

Disraeli Bridges project is nearing full completion. Crews are working on finishing the MSE walls and pedestrian access to the bridge. Most of the street work is now completed on the north side. With some work remaining on Hespler. South side was complete last year.

The AT bridge is also moving along. I think it spans the river now, but still a ways from being completed. But Looks like the rest of the old bridge is slowly coming down. At least half way across the river now, and then it`s only girders left for the next span.

Yes,from the article. Temporary solution but a great way to bring the street level vitality to a new level. Perfect probably not, but we are a 4 season city with the majority/non-patio weather...Great seasonal solution.
