The citizens I know are very thankful for the help and support received from Edmonton in a time of crisis.
^ Pretty sure, without all the support from Edmonton, Calgary would be a smoking hole in the ground by now too lol.. also twice as twitchy with all that nose candy everyone's so fond of down there lol.
Link to where you can write to the National Post's Editors responsible to voice your displeasure. Completely unacceptable to say that about any municipality in this country, let alone one that lent so much support to our southern neighbours, even if it was meant to be a joke.

you sure can appreciate the speed advantage with steel
A lot of people are complaining about the Hendrix as being too boring or whatever. I think it looks great in that arial, its style will lend itself well to the surrounding area, as opposed to Pearl which will contrast it

Short term pain for long term gain
^I love steel, but there really isn't a speed advantage at the end of the day. This is primarily due to steel requiring significant fire protection once in place versus concrete which does not typically require any of that.
There are also a lot of other reasons for not going steel.

EDMONTON - One building has already come down, but plans for redevelopment at the downtown site anchored by the historic, fire-ravaged Kelly-Ramsey Block are still a work in progress.
Developer John Day had planned to build a $250-million, 29-storey office and hotel tower on the Rice-Howard Way site. It includes the Moser-Ryder Building that until 2012 housed Swedish Jewellers, and a neighbouring building that also faces 101st Street, south of 102nd Avenue.
The new tower, featuring 4-1/2 storeys of underground parking had been scheduled to open in early 2016. But Day said Friday he is working on changes in the design of the development.
“We had looked at doing a mixed-use building,” he said. “We’re now going to build just an office building … so we’re redoing the renderings.”
While the project’s design and timeline is still in the works, the plan is to have commercial and retail space on the main floor and offices above, he said.
