LA also has the backdrop of the mountains to add dramatic effect.

Since when does the height of a skyscraper skyline matter when considering how nice it looks or how dense it is? I guess I never received that memo. For example, Dubai's skyline is hideous, but is very tall.

EDIT: I corrected my post about Houston, take a fucking pill dude. You're acting like a baby that didn't get enough milk, holy christ. You're actually saying that just because Minneapolis has 1 more building over 200 meters than Calgary does, that makes it absolutely a comparable skyline? That's a good one. How about Calgary's twin towers at 197 meters? When Minneapolis' height drops off at 203.6 meters, it goes down to 177 meters. Calgary has two 197 meters then drops to three 177 meter towers. Not to mention that Calgary has two towers at 210+ meters proposed(with site-prep complete and construction imminent on the taller). Dallas has an ugly skyline filled with badly done PoMo, nowhere near comparison to Calgary's. The end.

Oh, and I smoke Belmonts.

Wouldn't it be easier to admit you forgot a couple than try and claim Houston can't even be compared to Calgary's skyline or that Minnesota doesn't deserve to be compared because it's height drops off a few more metres than Calgary after 200M? Or that Dallas doesn't count because it is ugly?

The bottom line is that most of these skylines are comparable to not just calgary but the other ones you listed, and to not list them then say they don't count is pretty silly stance.

Sometimes its ok to be wrong or overlook things... it happens.

I had already changed my comment about Houston before you began your tantrum. The other ones, I didn't forget. Height isn't the only thing that makes skylines good.

It's cool to know we have an absolute authority on such matters on this board! How else would I have known that Minneapolis isn't even close to being on par with Calgary? Seriously it's a massive question that weighs on all of us. Well now we know for sure!

When ever I see a city skyline, especially when i'm new to a city I tend to do a mental comparison to other cities i've been to. I've thought in the past Denver and Calgary were comparable when viewed against mountains from each cities airport but i've come to realize Calgary's skyline has out paced Denver's for quite some time. Minneapolis in comparison to Calgary maybe to height before the Bow, but i've never thought it's compared with density (at least in time since i've been going to Minni).. I've assumed Philly has taller buildings as compared to Toronto, but have learnt that FCP is still taller than Comcast by like a metre.
I think i'm tending to find US builds buildings taller per city than Canada does, Canada builds denser downtowns i.e. Vancouver.. Calgary is like the king of twin tower developments in my mind. If they were built as single towers they would be taller than Toronto's.

US skylines are generally taller than Canadian skylines. I would also rank Calgary ahead of Dallas and Minneapolis. But Houston is definitely on par if not ahead.

Houston definitely beats Calgary in number of skylines. I didn't know Houston had another cluster of buildings like this. Must be a medical district or something.

That's a picture of a portion of the Texas Medical Center, which I believe is the largest hospital / medical research facility in the U.S..

Oh, and I might as well end the city rivalry debate thing here too.

All cities suck except Winnipeg. Toronto, Chicago, Calgary, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Dallas, and Houston are all pathetic. Even combined their skyline(s) couldn't hold a candle to the glory that is urban Manitoba. Come to think of it, we're better than Shanghai and Dubai too. Fuck those places. All Winnipeg needs is about 1200 new skyscrapers, including half a dozen supertalls, and we will reign supreme!

Set all your petty differences aside and bow down to Winnipeg in all her might. I don't mean to brag, but hey - we DO have the most highrises in the Greater Winnipeg Area. Think about it.

I like looking at skylines, hence being registered here,but when visiting cities it's more about the urbanity and neighbourhoods for me. That's how I personally rate cities. Not how many sterile green towers the ciy has..Especially if it were to shuts down after 6:00.

When you compare US and Canadian cities with similar populations, the Canadian skylines are generally taller and larger.

BTW Lenin, good try, but we all know Toronto is the centre of the universe, including the unknown regions astronomers are yet to discover. That's why all alien visits are to the US, they know that Toronto is too awesome for their presence so they have to go somewhere less worthy of intergalactic travellers.
