A high end boutique is opening up in the Arts District. Originally a pop up, Guerrilla Atelier has decided to become a permanent fixture. Because of this decision, Guerrilla Atelier will also add 1000 feet to the store. Yay! Guerrilla Atelier is especially cool because it is the only store in the US that stocks Venus et Judes, a french (and expensive) clothing brand.

That's pretty exciting. Between Poketo, Apolis, Guerilla and the places in Little Tokyo (Number A, Kinski, AA, and a few others including that awesome vintage shop on first), there is some really good (and almost bountiful) shopping over that way. And all totally walkable. The Arts District especially is shaping up really nicely. There's an Umami Burger going in over there as well.

I was talking to owner of Whitmore (a menswear popup over on west 3rd) and he said he was looking in downtown for a permanent spot as well.

My prediction: Downtown residents will love it, and commuters that pass through downtown via Broadway will hate it.

I'm surprised you guys aren't more jazzed about this. This is going to change the feel of Broadway for the better far more than any development project we've discussed, and because they're doing a temporary version first, its literally going to happen overnight.

I see this as planning for the future in a way, to draw in development and new retail/restos. To show the cities' commitment to the street. Broadway will still have exactly the same stuff on it after they install the road diet. There will still be very little reason for me to walk on broadway (let alone hang out and gather). I'd be a lot more excited if they were doing this to Spring. In a few years this will be great, but i definitely think of it as future growth.

True, its not going to change any of the shops. But its going to make the street more enjoyable to walk down, and its definitely going to attract new development to Broadway faster.

Didn't see this mentioned already, sorry if it's a repost. We could see some action with the L.A. Central parcel soon-

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-06-21...or-downtown-los-angeles-real-estate.html

Moinian Seeks Buyer for Downtown Los Angeles Real Estate

New York developer Joseph Moinian is marketing downtown Los Angeles land planned for a high-end retail, hotel and residential project.

Moinian Group, which bought the 4.5-acre (1.8-hectare) property in 2006 for $80 million from Anschutz Entertainment Group, has about 10 bidders and will choose within 30 to 60 days. Moinian, who had planned to build a mixed-use development on 1.5 million square feet (139,000 square meters) at the corner of 11th and Figueroa streets, decided to abandon the project to focus on New York real estate

“We have long believed that this is the best development site in Los Angeles and are encouraged by the incredible interest we are receiving from the buyer community,” Joseph Moinian said in an e-mailed statement.

About half the bidders for the Los Angeles land are from overseas, including China and the Middle East, the person said. The project may be valued at as much as $900 million once completed, said the person with knowledge of the process.

Thanks for posting that again. I put it up a few days ago, but it got lost in the midst of the discussion about Nordstrom Rack.

The article mentions that the bids are averaging about $180 million, so we're looking at a buyer with some serious $$$. Hopefully that means the project will be of the same scale as Moinian's proposal.

I see it now, guess I didn't go back far enough. Sorry about that. The Nordstrom Rack discussion was more important apparently.

It's okay! Its big news, and like you said, it was being drowned out. I'm sure the forumer responsible for that minor derailment a couple pages back (and whom I shall not name) is doing jumping jacks right now after seeing the news about Guerrilla Atelier.

I don't know what Guerilla Atelier is actually, but it is likely too expensive for me. I'd be very excited if they were coming to the Core, just to have more real shops around.

South Park Courtyard Marriott from my rooftop in Ktown. It takes looking at this thing from far away to realize just how dwarfed it is by the Ritz tower.

I recall that one of the adjacent lots was bought by a company that mainly runs parking lots. Maybe the former South Group lot. The consensus was that it may be a decade or two before that lots was resold and developed, but if this price is any indication, then it may not be nearly that long. Those prices - if true - are insane!

What's great about that picture is that 5 out of the 7 towers in it weren't there 7 years ago.

Another one will start up next year, and I can't imagine how the Metropolis site will turn out. That part of Southpark has changed immensely. Hopefully LA Central gets revived.

Downtown has changed significantly at the street level ever since the time LA Live was built, and this is most noticeable to those of us who are in downtown everyday and commute through means other than automobile. Urban change happens at the street level, not at the behest of megaprojects. This is why I no longer think it's a big deal if some 50 story tower doesn't pan out. Give another perspective a chance.

Hi. I'm a long time lurker on the L.A. forums, but I found something that I'm not sure has been posted on here.

It's the Union Station proposal by UN Studio. Is this old news here? I rarely come on here. So, please message me to let me know. Thanks.

^There were a release of various designs for the development of the area around Union Station a number of pages back. I don't recall seeing those. However they were all long term/'visionary' designs, so I don't think much should be taken from them. I think we'll all be dead before any of them happen lol
