The hording around a number of projects in Fort Mac are covered with images of the project. It looks quite good. I agree with Maqs comments. I was impressed with the good neighbour policy on construction sites in London.

Here is an Image from Mac Island in Fort Mac. You will notice the screening in the lower right. The whole public side is covered with this screen. It’s quite impressive.

The Eskimos will be playing a pre-season game against Saskatchewan at Shell Place (this stadium being built) in 2015. Pretty big deal up here!

There's no relief in sight for drivers snarled in Yellowhead Trail traffic because high costs mean an overhaul of one of the city's busiest corridors isn't likely to happen for years.

There has been a plan since 2011 to turn the commuter and truck route into a smooth-flowing freeway with limited access and no traffic signals, but councillors said Wednesday the price could be prohibitive.

"We can't just open the wallets and spend probably four to five billion dollars to fix it along the way," Mayor Stephen Mandel said following a closed-door transportation committee discussion of a proposed 149th Street interchange...

West Rossdale implementation Plan

DECL met with the City to go over the road/sidewalk/bike alignments planned for the new West Rossdale plan.

Overall some good ideas to improve the feel of community down there without reducing capacity or interfering with commuter flow.

RE: 105 Ave/north edge public realm improvements

DECL met with the CoE this week to get an update on this.

They have some significant money, ~$50-60mil, to do phase 1 of this in 2014. It will include utilities, roadway improvements, bike lane, enhanced sidewalk on the north side, landscaping and new street furniture/lighting in some areas.

Phase 1 - 2014 - 105 ave from 119st-114st

Phase 2 - 2015 (budget dependent) - 105ave from 114st-109st.

Of note, 97st-101st is now out of this project, 101st-105st is essentially complete due to arena/LRT and 105st-109st has been shelved for now pending MacEwan's expansion plan.

Townhouses need serious tuning up. I could put atco trailers side by side and get the same horrible result.

The cost of delaying and postponing important projects....Same with building an expressway from the south side to downtown.

Too expensive....can't do it. Too much money.. Can't do it.

In the meantime, why doesn't the city have a policy of containing urban expansion and instead put more infrastructure money on rebuilding the major roadways in the city!!!!

They look great to me, even if these images are conceptual...Edmonton desperately needs some clean, contemporary townhomes.

Is that a top floor ammenity area/lookout?

This tower will have a similar impact to the Pearl in terms of height given what's around it.

I would like to see 2.5/3 storey townhomes though, which is more in line with TO/Van. The third level really helps define the streetwall at the pedestrian level, though I can understand why area residents may not be inclined to support anything but a standard semidetached height skirting an already tall building

I think the Pearl is going to age quickly, and some elements of it are not going to look so good a few years down the road.

This one I think will age much better. Given the stock of boxy '80's style buildings around it, this will give the area a nice contemporary look without seeming out of place.

Funny thing about the townhouses though... Whenever I walk around yuppieville down in Van, All those podium townhouses have the blinds drawn and look pretty lifeless. But I think that's because they are right on the sidewalk. These look like they'll have a little greenspace in front.

It's quite something to watch if you live in one of those units, just a few feet from the sidewalk. EVERYBODY looks in as they walk by. It's no different than looking at a store window as you walk. The pedestrian might not be looking at anything specific as they look in, but it can be un-nerving. Just human nature I guess. I find myself doing the same thing as I walk around, but it's always been a fleeting glance.

It's even better when people stop, stare or best yet, take photos. We've had people take picture of art and light fixtures in our townhouse.
