Well it's official - Fossil is moving into the old Lillianne location, next to Pandora and across from Laura Secord.

That space is not currently under renovations. Maybe no tenant yet.

Entirely possible. Every other vacant space in Champlain Place is surrounded by construction drywall, but not the old Peoples location.

This storefront has a somewhat odd triangular shape. Maybe this makes it less attractive to potential lessees. On the other hand, it is a relatively prominent location.....

Looks like the Moncton Marshall's will be open well before the Dartmouth Crossing one. They haven't even started the DC one yet...

Mary Brown's Update

Looks like things aren't moving along as quickly as originally anticipated so the opening for Mary Browns looks like it will be closer to the end of August now. I don't know if I can hold out until then I may have to find an excuse to go to Fredericton very soon

I'm from Newfoundland and am going back to Corner Brook for vacation in September so no point in making two trips to the island

According to Think Retail, the Fossil store in Champlain Place will open in September. It will be the 25th Fossil store in Canada.

Champlain Place Update:

- As Stephan noted above, Zumiez has opened. It's actually a pretty classy looking store.
- The Fido kiosk has opened next to Tommy Hilfiger (that was quick).
- Froshberg Gelato/Crepe Delicious has also opened next to Sobeys.

Froshberg Gelato/Crepe Delicious looks great! Classy!

Cut 2000 Men's Hairstyling looks a little out of place now with the food outlets around them.
It's nice to have a new little cluster of snack retailers, but the location is just meh... IMHO, little foot traffic to be found.

I agree about Cuts 2000. I don't know why it is still there. It's the last "local" tenant in the mall, so I'm not sure why Cadillac Fairview has given them special dispensation.

As you have said, it looks very much out of place now that it is surrounded by Froshberg Gelatto/Crepe Delicious, Pretzelmaker/Mrs. Fields and Booster Juice. I wonder how much longer they will stay in this location. That spot should really be occupied by another food vendor......

As far as foot traffic is concerned, I'm not too worried about that. I'm sure most locals will be aware of where Froshberg is within the next few weeks, and if anyone has a real hankering for a gelatto, I'm sure they will know where to go.

Maybe it's not easy renting out such a small space and they're keeping Cuts2000 in the meantime. I think Cinnabon would fit perfectly in that location.

I would add Sobeys to that list as well. They have a cash register located at their mall entrance for their grill/sandwich/salad/sushi products.

This has essentially evolved into Champlain Place's second food court, as opposed to mere tables next to a grocery store, mostly used by its staff while on break.

I actually wish this mall would consider a bold expansion. A second floor would be wonderful to see. When I think about some of the mall redevelopments in the Vancouver area -- I see opportunity for the Champlain Place site. The surface parking could host parking garages, residential developments, and office space. This would also be an excellent chance to create green space, either at ground level near the residential buildings, and/or perhaps a green roof on Champlain.

All of this would help tie together downtown Dieppe and downtown Moncton.

It's been a long time since I've been in Champlain Place, but, putting aside most of the architectural issues (ie is the Foundation strong enough to support it), could they make the mall 2 stories in multiple phases? ie double up a wing at a time? The main problem I would see with that is that most of their anchors (Sobeys, WalMart especially) don't do multi-story stores.

I'm thinking of how St. Laurant in Ottawa has 1 two-story wing while the rest of the mall is/was single story.

Structural issues would be key to any proposed second floor expansion. That and the fact that Champlain Place is built on a marshy floodplain and perhaps the footings might not be deep enough to support the additional weight.

I have often fantasized about expanding the mall to the north and connecting it directly to Crystal Palace, but with the new Empire Theatre at Crystal Palace, this is likely no longer a viable consideration.

I think the mall is probably stuck at it's current size (at least in terms of footprint). If a second floor expansion were ever to occur, I would start with the older section of the mall (between Wal Mart and Sears). I wonder if there is a business case for expansion? We always hear that there is a queue of retailers out there looking for space at Champlain, and mall occupancy is always at or near 100%, but is there enough demand to justify a second floor wing?

As much of a Moncton booster as I am, I rather doubt it.....

Yes I have always heard the ground is not stable enough to support adding a seoncd floor. They could anchor the build to bedrock but that would be costly and disruptive to the tenants. Although with the Walmart becoming a Supercentre, one has to wonder where they are expanding to.

They did extend the surface parking along Paul Street... Hmmm.

When I was in Moncton over the weekend I noticed a wrecking ball parked in Champlain's parking lot along Paul. Is this crane only for the mall entrance behind Wal-Mart they are renovating/relocating, or could it be for Wal-Mart itself?

I haven't read anything about plans for that mall. I haven't a clue. But this might be worth keeping an eye on.
