Urban behavior

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet but apparently this Retail Store is coming to Moncton. From what I have been told it will be in the New Mapleton Center and should be opening near end of summer 2013. According to Wikipedia "In June 2011, CMT Canada, Urban Behavior's corporate parent, filed a Notice of Intention to Make a Proposal (“NOI”) pursuant to the provisions of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA”). The NOI is a restructuring process was not a liquidation or Bankruptcy. Approximately 24 of the existing 120 store locations across Canada were planned to be closed by August 31.[5] The liquidation outlet centres in Toronto are now closed and many stores across Canada closed. The few Urban Behavior locations remaining do not carry the name of the clothing label and only the banner in front of the stores were retained."

Not sure the benefit of opening more stores but there you have it.

It is odd for them to be expanding at this time, did you hear this from a good source? That wikipedia article is inconsistent about how many stores they have in Canada.

Yeah like 99% trusting of them. The company that owns them apparently also own Stitches, Urban Planet, Sirens, Siblings, Suzy Shier, Bluenotes and Latitudes.

There is no mention of this on the Mapleton Centre website (not that that would mean anything....)

On the other hand, there is a storefront immediately next to the Bombay Company where the "for lease" banner has come off. I wonder if that means anything.......

Was doing some research this evening and came across this:
http://ca.indeed.com/cmp/URBAN-BEHAVIOR/jobs/Store-Manager-b950b01974b048ff

End of July 2013. Seems legit at least from that assuming it was posted by the company itself.

Good detective work drewber, you've made me a believer.

So, here is the updated list of tenants at the Mapleton Centre:

- Cleves Source for Sports
- Ocean Trail Source for Adventure
- Golf Town
- Bed, Bath & Beyond
- PetSmart
- Moxie's Bar & Grill
- Bombay Company
- Wicker Emporium
- Carter's/Osh Kosh
- Banana Republic Factory Store (opening soon)
- Urban Behaviour (opening soon)

Target Posting a lot of Jobs

Looks like we are getting closer and closer.
Still looks like a lot of work still to be done on the building, but Target is lining up its army of staff.
Walmart also has the side of the building off, so we might see some steel going up soon

There are heavy duty renovations going on at the Northwest Centre where Marshall's is going. The former dentist office in that location has moved out and this space will be incorporated into the Marshall's storefront......

Plaza Blvd. Wal-Mart Expansion & Fugliest Sign on Earth

Nobody's posted anything yet, so here's a pic of the expansion work being done today on the Wal-Mart at Plaza Blvd. Will be interesting to see just how many "new" items become available once everything's said & done in a few months. Sorry for blurry quality... digital zoom on my phone totally —.

A while back, someone posted that they didn't find the yellow from the Mapleton Centre sign was that glaring/bright. I think someone might have already posted updated pics since then, but here's a pic from today in direct sunlight. I think this will go down in history to be known as the "Salt Bin" or "Salt Spreader" sign. And no, it doesn't look any better at night even when the signs are lit up.

I'm actually still trying to figure that out myself. I think its sole purpose it to "look fugly" or perhaps to draw attention from passing motorists (in the worst way possible)?

Seriously, it makes no sense to have that yellow "bin" on the top of the sign. It doesn't light up (thank God), doesn't do anything on its own and doesn't seem to serve any functional purpose. Would have made a lot more sense to stop at the "Mapleton Centre" sign and not put that yellow monster on top of it. Sure would have improved the appearance a hell of a lot more had they done it that way.

Another thing I noticed which doesn't make much sense... there's 6 flag poles/banner holders on the "bin" (3 on each side), yet only 2 banners. Why have 6 flag poles stuck so closely together if you're only going to be using 2 of them?

Dunno... the whole thing is just weird/bizarre and as Buster would say on Arrested Development, a "hot mess".

Champlain Place Update:

- There will very soon be a Fido kiosk at the mall, located in the corridor next to Tommy Hilfiger.
- The Lillianne lingerie store is gone and the space is now surrounded by a construction barrier. I wonder if Fossil could in fact be locating here. It would fit very well with the article in Think Retail stating that the Fossil store would be located on the mall's "50 yard line". You can't get any more central than this location.....

Is there an observation deck on the top?

Change of plans... Fruits & Passion is not closing, it is on the move! The new store or temporary store is going next to Peoples in front of the future Fido counter. F&P do have quality products so it's a good tenant for Champlain, but I'm surprised that they are staying. More power to them.

Yes, it's advertised as "Climb to the one spot in a 1/4 mile radius where this monstrosity is not visible! Your eyes will thank you!"

ok... so now ill play devil's advocate...
the sign is viewable..
the sign is unique ( yes ugly)
the sign gets people talking ( maybe for right.. maybe for wrong reasons)

but have you ever seen a sign at an amusement park?
or the flashing lights at Empire Trinity ( i still dont know what those metal beams are for)

IMHO the mapleton park sign looks like a THEME PARK attraction type sign.. and i think the developers ( as much idiots as they are...) are probably playing that COME HERE AND SEE ME ATTRACTION "card" .

One can hope there was a logical reason behind the design...but then again .. they are the ones that decided to dig out a 60 foot drop behind an artificial hill and support it with a movable stone wall... oh wait.. that fell apart too... :S

my 6 cents worth and a bit of humour for the page.. !

cheers all.. happy MOnday!!
