excellent news. So it will probably be 33 stories on top of 6 stories of parking so a taller watermarke... as long as the street level integration is good, this could be real nice.

Since we're sort of new to this urban thing in LA, I'm content for now with the 5-7 story boxes we're getting. Ten years from now will be a different story.

That's pretty awesome, I'm a total sucker for cool historical footnotes like that. Thanks.

The only thing we have over everyone else (sans NYC) is size and the amount of places and things to see and do.
Is this still in reference to downtowns or to the metro as a whole?

I'm also a fan of this mid rise trend we're getting. I don't see any major 50+ story office tower proposals anytime soon but with this new wave of midrises that are proposed, I'm very excited for DTLA.

Still, I'd like to see some truly forward thinking architecture in downtown. Zaha Hadid is a dream but that's far off if ever. I really want to see something with architectural merit.

I get the feeling that Library Tower is gonna remain our signature tower for a looooong time.

Yep, the next floor they pour will be the roof. I'm also guessing they will slap on the remaining cladding with the quickness as has been their MO.

dealing with areas like this, mile after mile, has done more to ruin ppl's positive sense of this town, far more than anything else. This is what has long been where the astani proj is planned to go up, & much of dt still is not much more appealing than this...

this to me best represents what has long damaged the city's credibility. too many instances where something nice....the new hotel of LA hotel, still under construction when googlemap's pic was taken....is stuck in the middle of a lot of fugliness & blight.....a sense that success & the $$ that goes with that is in short supply in too many hoods of LA.....

I was speaking with my nephew last yr & I asked him if he'd like to find a job here in LA instead of where he currently lives on the east coast, a small town between Philly & NY. He kind of averted his eyes & said....sheepishly to me....that he'd consider moving to the SF bay area, or maybe farther north than that...presumably Portland or seattle....but he avoided mentioning the idea of relocating to LA. I privately sighed to myself, & let it go at that.

People, please stay on course and talk about development projects in downtown LA. These city vs. city arguments are off topic. Force me to be a babysitter, and one or more of you will be sent to your room(s).

Nice find. I looked up the website for the architects, Tate Snyder Kimsey, and found two renderings there which look more or less the same as the ones in the pdf, with different lighting.

All photos from Tate Snyder Kimsey.

Edit: Whoops, didn't see your post before I wrote this one, DistrictDirt!

Not bad. Not bad at all. Needs to be about 3 stories taller imo.

looks pretty good to me. hopefully this finishes are quality materials. I agree with Threehundred though. i wish this was closer to 10 - 12 stories tall.

i like this trend of less parking for buildings. it now seems that less than 1 space per unit (close to .9 over the last couple projects we've seen) is the norm, not 2 or 3 per unit

The renderings you posted are clearer, anyway. Previously I thought that square on the Los Angeles streets side was just some weird light installation, but in your rendering I can see that its actually a portal to the courtyard, with bulbs strung across it.

I like it! While I agree that it would be nice to see a taller building, there are sooo many surface parking lots in DT that I'm happy to see these 6-7 story buildings popping up everywhere. There is plenty of room for skyscrapers, and more of them will come when the market justifies more of them.

On the note of parking, I couldn't agree more, this is an awesome trend. Los Angeles is slowly becoming an urban city!

Interesting project. Hopefully it'll help kickstart the Shy Barry Tower project.

Yeah, those two will do great things to 6th and Main. Main between 5th and 6th is still pretty crappy. It will also be interesting to see what retail takes the Los Angeles St spaces and if it will spur more development on that side of the block.

Wow. Great to see so many people using the park so soon after its opening. Clearly, the need is there.

Well done, LA!

I didn't realize there was that much development that far south in South Park. What's it like to walk in the area? Does it feel like a neighborhood is developing?
