Doubt they'd be doing a lot of loading from Granville Street.

Pics by me today.

There's a 2 storey gap between the columns closest to the sidewalk and the 2nd floor slab - I wonder whether the store design will highlight this area? The 2nd floor floorplan does not show the "Open to Above" section extending along Granville Street (justin the old rotunda area).

First part of the exterior wall of Nordstrom being installed. Above this level would be offices with glass curtain wall:

From the Future Shop level, you can see far into the skeleton for another interesting perspective.

It's amazing to see how clean the terracotta panels are beneath the 'eatons' redo cladding over the Robson / Howe entry. Don't think Sears ever cleaning that building during their 13+ years but EATON'S always took meticulous care of both the terracotta and the roof.

That's "terrazzo" (aggregate marble chips), not "terra cotta" (fired ceramic).
A good griniding would have polished them to their original finish (that's how terrazzo floors are finished).

How embarrassing, totally meant terrazzo, huge fan of the material, total typo, thanks so much for the clarification.

Sears most deplorable act was not making any attempt to clean the exterior ( terrazzo panels ) during the 2010 Olympics, especially given that the wall was used for projections, giant ads and images by both the BC Pavilion at Robson Square, Nike and the like.

Eatons/Sears was the tenant.

Cadillac Fairview is the owner and should have done a better job power-washing the building. Especially to spiff up the building for the Olympics. The contrast between the cleaner portions that were covered up during the Sears renos, and the rest of the exterior shows just how dirty CF (and Sears) let the building get.

For the rest of time, Olympic visitors and their children & grandchildren will be looking at the photos taken at Robson Square and wonder what that streaky black stuff is on the building in the background. YUK

This doesn't bode well for maintenance of the new exterior of the building, so get your photos early while it's still new.

Sears must have been partially responsible for the exterior maintenance because when EATON'S was the tenant it was always meticulously maintained. Perhaps EATON'S paid CF some sort of maintenance fee that Sear's did not. Regardless, I've no doubt that Nordstrom will have very high standards.

Eaton's was an original partner in the development - so it may have had special terms for maintenace (i.e. it was responsible for its own rather than paying CF) - if so, that would have been transferred to Sears.

With the buy-back of the lease, I would expect that new tenants wouldn't get such a favourable clause and CF would be responsible for all maintenance, and it would be charged back to tenants.

I used to work in operations for Cadillac Fairview at Pacific Centre and at least in most cases Sears was a separate entity. We never touched anything in there.

My first thread here was a photo gallery from the top of TD tower right after I gave my notice.

Sears was entirely responsible for the aesthetic upkeep of the building, and unsurprisingly they did not take adequate care.

For the life of me, I have no idea why they recently built that small wooden ramp in the lower left of the shot. Are they sifting contents stripped from the roof?
