I know they had a job fair about a week ago to fill 50 positions. Not sure if construction has started, I might be around there later today and will check.

Great news for downtown:
Equitable building getting new tenant http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/real_talk/2013/06/koch-planning-move-to-downtowns.html

Coke bringing 2,000 jobs to the Suntrust building

I was over there yesterday: there was one utility truck parked on the lot but they were working on something for the adjacent streetcar line. Nothing has been disturbed yet.

Beltline-sideline: if you haven't been to the section over by North Ave lately, it's going crazy. Somerset still hasn't started but the entire parking deck for the one by Masquerade is up (must have been pre-fabbed... it's like 4 stories) and Bohemian looks to be mostly roughed in. They still haven't broken ground on the connection to Old 4th Ward Park

Lol what?? Can you post a link?

This is the closest thing I could find to that on their website: http://www.joscre.com/documents/JCRE_ABC2012.pdf

Also there's no possible way that building could go on the adjacent blocks on which it appears to be placed in that "render". You can clearly see the equitable building in the reflection, and the blocks southeast of the building are occupied. This has to be a joke.

I haven't seen it online, but it's on page 47 if you are a subscriber with access to the digital edition (PDF)

Holy PhotoShop, Batman! That entire group photo has been pieced together... BADLY. As a graphic designer, it's giving me a good chuckle though. Check out the head/neck combo on Red Tie Guy. Don't get me started on the arms of the 2 ladies on the far right. Far Left guy has some oddly disproportionate arms (one of them is even see-through)! Why is Yellow Tie man-grabbing his crotch!?!

I guess my point is that the positioning of the second tower could be WAY off in the render given the skill set of the person mocking up the content (or time allotted to complete the work).

I have not heard of this before either, but here is an article from 2009 that talks about it.

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/stories/2009/12/14/newscolumn4.html?page=2

...Jackson Oats Shaw will begin marketing Centennial Tower II in 2010, a build-to-suit 28-story building that would be located adjacent to Centennial Tower...The 1-acre site for the new tower is home to a seven-story parking deck used as additional parking for Centennial Tower and nearby hotels.

It looks like this made its way around the forum as well. See post at the bottom of the page.

Ahh, ok. I didn't get a great look at it as I'm at work. If it is where that parking deck is that would make sense, but not at the orientation or shape of the original tower. I'd be all for another parking deck down. Hopefully with the streetcar going in and the area around the park looking up we can get some more projects up in the area.

That is my favorite parking deck. I love the way the backends of cars hang out over the sidewalk on Marietta Street. Too funny. BTW, if you are ever trying to catch the #1 bus up to the Northside Tavern the bench there has an awesome old-school bus info thing. It's a cool metal-framed rectangular box with route info and stop times -- woefully out of date, but still cool. Wish they would have stuck with these

A developer is eyeing the conversion of a vacant 20-story downtown office building to high-rise apartments.

Atlanta-based Paces Properties LLC has put 250 Piedmont Ave. under contract, according to commercial real estate executives with knowledge of the plan.

Paces, led by CEO David Cochran, could not comment. The final negotiations and design of the project are expected to unfold over the next several weeks, sources said.

The 250 Piedmont building was once home to SunTrust Banks Inc. before the lender relocated its operations to other parts of downtown a few years ago. In 2011, the city was close to an ...

I'm really excited about this in that it removes some rather crappy office space and provides much-needed rental housing within walking distance of Downtown's 118,000 jobs. I have many, many friends who would live in the core of Downtown (like I have for 15 years), but don't want to own a condo. This is a step in the right direction.

Well check out what Emerald Fund is doing with a similarly obsolete office building in SF's "downtown" (aka Civic Center, aka the grungy part of the city much like Atl's DT). 399 units, only 112 parking spaces.

Cheese n' F'en Rice - what's with the attitude? Prior to Simms' post, I was not excited about a brown box turning into apartments. Now I can see what the possibilities are (albeit in another city).

Chill out Brah!

Exactly. Not that something like that will necessarily happen in Atlanta, but more residential units is something downtown really needs, so even if this doesn't end up being pretty, just from an urban perspective it could really help that side of downtown out to get some residents. I'm excited for the next cycle and I hope downtown gets some more residential development soon. Now that I'm working downtown I really see the great potential that Fairlie Poplar and the Centennial Park area have in revitalizing the downtown core as a whole. We already have the hotel and office density, now we just need more actual residents in the area.
